Restore from NSB: empty folders
So I've set up ATI 2011 a long time ago to take incremental backups on my external HDD.
With the main HDD failing, the time has come for ATI to shine, but partitions on the external HDD also got mangled up. Finally pulling out the backup files I am relieved seeing all the files seemingly in place.
When I go ahead and try to restore any of them, only the folders are created. Out of 20k files, 18 were restored as 0-byte jpegs.
The event log says recovering backup archive from file "", and also has loads of "end of file reached" errors, however, ATI still reports the restore as successful. The backup files now reside on my main HDD in the TES folder, and I am running ATI under admin. I tried swapping metadata for the backup to no avail.
Any suggestions? I've seen a couple of similar topics on here with no solution given.

Hello Anton,
Incremental backups can be validated (open Operations menu and select Validate, see if it succeeds or ends with an error), while NSB (Nonstop backup) - cannot. As https://kb.acronis.com/content/17612 states, "Validation is not available for backups created with Acronis Nonstop Backup".
If your main HDD runs a recovered Windows (not clean install), then I suggest you to check and repair file system on the drive where Time Explorer Storage folder resides, then reattempt restoration attempt. Try different recovery points, not just the latest one.
You can also attempt to recover files with a trial version of the latest Acronis True Image 2016: uninstall 2011 version, reboot the computer, install 2016, choose trial mode when asked. If your NSB backup will not be detected automatically, add it manually: click on a small triangle near "Add backup" and choose "Add existing backup", point it to .tib file in the Time Explorer Storage folder and confirm the operation, then attempt to restore from that backup. Later you can always uninstall 2016 version and return to 2011.
If you have incremental backups (not NSB, but regular backups), then I suggest you to try restoring your files by using bootable media. Boot your computer from Acronis bootable media, select Recover - Files, browse to the backup location, select .tib file and proceed with the restoration.
In case if you do not succeed with restoring from Acronis backup (that could happen due to the issues with the external drive and actual backup file corruption) and the original failed disk is still in your hands, you can go for various "undelete" software available. The most comprehensive, powerful, but complicated on the other hand, seems to be free TestDisk.

Thanks for the reply Slava,
Trial 2016 fails as well, although the filesystem structure is still visible, thanks to the metadata.
The NSB backup was recovered with Testdisk, however, it might have been corrupted in the process.
Anyone reading this: do not rely solely on NSB
