Howdy!

  • I've installed windows 10 on a 120 gb disk
  • I've created an image with ATI 2013 (bootable usb)
  • I've deleted the disk with g-parted (bootable usb)
  • I've restored the disk with ATI 2013 (bootable usb)
  • I'm getting the error 0xc0000225

Restore1.jpg: restore options

  • 450 mb - pri act
  • 99 mb - pri act
  • 111,2  gb - pri

Restore2.jpg: summery restore
Bios.jpg: boot order

I've tried evertying. From editing the boot order and switching the pri and act.

I've restored the image earlier with no problems. What i'm doing wrong?

Hello, please see webpage https://neosmart.net/wiki/0xc0000225/ which shows several different ways to try to resolve this error - see the section for:

Other fixes for Status: 0xc0000225

which has these ways described.

The most likely cause is not having the System Reserved partition (99MB) set as active or in the correct position on the drive.  If you created an entire disk backup image with your ATIH 2013 boot USB stick, then you should restore this as the entire disk, not as individual partitions, so that the correct partition order is maintained.

ATIH 2013 is not officially supported for use with Windows 10, and I do not know if this has support on the bootable media for UEFI systems.

When booting the USB media, you should do so in the same mode as Windows 10 will boot, i.e. if Windows 10 boots in UEFI mode, then the USB media should be booted in the same way.

Your primary boot device in BIOS should be Windows Boot Manager and not the physical hard disk drive.

Tnx Steve!

I've installed Windows again. Now it works fine, i've made some print screens

boot.jpg: current bios setup

gparted.jpg: 4 partitions

atih2013.jpg: i can only make a backup from 3 partitions? how can i make a backup as one disk, so the next time i've no problem restoring the image.

Recovering a disk with a hidden partition

A hidden partition may be created by the PC manufacturer for diagnostics or system recovery. Users of Windows 7 usually have the hidden System Reserved partition. Recovering a backup of a system disk with a hidden partition requires that you to take into account some additional factors. First of all, it is necessary for the new drive to keep the physical order of thepartitions that existed on the old drive. In addition, you should place the hidden partition in the same location - usually at the start or the end of the disk space. To minimize the risk of possible problems, it is better to recover the hidden partitionwithout resizing. Here we describe recovery of a system disk with Windows 7 and the hidden System Reserved partition.

Attach the external drive if it contains the backup to be used for recovery and make sure that the drive is powered on. This must be done before booting from Acronis rescue media.

  1. Arrange the boot order in BIOS so as to make your rescue media device (CD, DVD or USB stick) the first boot device. See Arranging boot order in BIOS.
  2. Boot from the rescue media and select True Image.
  3. Select Recovery ® Disk and Partition Recovery in the main menu. Choose the image backup of your system disk that you want to use for recovery.

Before continuing with the recovery, you need to know the sizes and physical order of all existing partitions. To see this information, click Details on the wizard's toolbar. True Image 2013 displays information about the backup. This includes a graphical view of all partitions the disk contains and their physical order on the disk.

Please read the remainder of this section of the user guide for the complete advice.

Tnx again Steve,

So i've tried it again. Just to figer it out how it works :)

- formated the whole disk with g-parted

- restore the image with atih2013 (every partion except the 16 mb)

- this time it booted and says: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

- it automatic rebooted

- i choose for advances recover settings

...now it's recovering....it wil take 1 hour...

this time i didn't change the bios.

before installing Windows i've installed KODI (Linux) and created also an image...

i'll come back when the repairing is done...

Hello, if you have made an entire disk backup you should not need to change the order of partitions when restoring, you should just restore the entire disk back again and keep the existing partition order as saved to the backup image.

See ATIH 2013 User Guide - Backing up partitions and disks and in particular, see the option in the image shown to "Switch to disk mode" so that you can select to backup the entire disk including all partitions it contains.

"If the disk has several partitions and you want to back up the whole disk, click Switch to disk mode in the upper-right corner and then select the disk's check box."

See ATIH 2013 User Guide - Recovering your system and in particular, follow the steps outlined in this chapter of the user guide.

After you have performed the steps described in Preparing for recovery, begin the system recovery procedure. Here we will explain how to recover a corrupted system to the same hard disk. System recovery to a replaced hard disk drive will be similar with some minor differences. You do not need to format the new disk, as this will be done in the process of recovery.

  3. Select My disks below Recover on the Welcome screen.
  4. Select the system disk or partition backup to be used for recovery.

Right-click on the backup and choose Recover in the shortcut menu.

  5. Select Recover whole disks and partitions at the Recovery method step.
  6. Select the system partition (usually C) on the What to recover screen. If the system partition has a different letter, select the partition using the Flags column. It must have the Pri, Act flags.

In case of Windows 7 the System Reserved partition will have the Pri, Act flags . You will need to select for recovery both the System Reserved partition and the System partition.

  7. At the "Settings of partition C" (or the letter of the system partition, if it is different) step check the default settings and click Next if they are correct. Otherwise, change the settings as required before clicking Next. Changing the settings will be needed when recovering to the new hard disk of a different capacity.
  8. Carefully read the summary of operations at the Finish step. If you have not resized the partition, the sizes in the Deleting partition andRecovering partition items must match. Having checked the summary click Proceed.
  9. When the operation finishes, exit the standalone version of True Image 2013, remove the rescue media and boot from the recovered system partition. After making sure that you have recovered Windows to the state you need, restore the original boot order.

nothing happend.

so when i boot into gparted i can see the 16 mb partion is missing. Is there any way to restore this?

You can only restore the missing Microsoft System Reserved partition if you have backed it up in the first place.

This is the partition which holds the Windows 10 Boot Configuration Database that in turn is the reason for your Inaccessible boot device error message.  Windows needs this partition to know how to boot into Windows 10.

On restoring i could only select the 3 partitions, not the fourth with 16 mb.

Please see my earlier #5 post above http://forum.acronis.com/forum/117892#comment-356114 and in particular,

Point 5. Select Recover whole disks and partitions at the Recovery method step.

You should be recovering the whole disk rather than recovering individual partitions.

If there are still problems, then this may be a limitation of using unsupported Acronis boot media with a Windows 10 system as I advised in my first response in post #1.

Hai Steve,

Tnx again!

The switch mode is not an option in the bootable USB. It is an option in the desktop software. I've downloaded the bootable USB 2016 (http://getintopc.com/softwares/data-recovery/acronis-true-image-bootabl…) as well and there is no option to switch to disk mode.

So far i can see it isn't possible to make a backup from the whole disk in the bootable USB software

Please see KB document: 38970: True Image 2013 by Acronis: Disk and Partition Recovery the expand the section for Recovery from Acronis Bootable Media which has a step by step guide for recovery whole disks and partitions.

KB document: 57982: Acronis True Image 2016: Restoring to a Drive with a Single Partition covers the same process when using ATIH 2016 bootable media.

In both articles i can't find specific information for backup up a whole disk including the 16 mb (hidden?) partition.

Please see post: 113176: Backup MSR-Partition which may be a similar question although it was reported for ATIH 2016 and the system was UEFI rather than MBR.

Hello Pacecal,

I am sorry but I am struggling to know how to help you further with this issue.

The only other suggestion would be to try cloning your working drive rather than using backup / restore but that will mean having a working system to start with and a second drive to clone to to test this method.

One further thought is to regard this as a Recovery issue and contact Acronis Technical Support as per the post: 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information - see section 5, copied below:

5.    Recovery issue

I was also having Error 0xc0000225 it occurs when our window stops to boot some specific file. to fix this you can rebuild BCD with easy recovery necessity.  also can use startup repair this is an automated diagnosis and repair tool and this is used to solve common problems. you can find easy steps to do so on the internet.
