Restored to larger drive. New drive shown as half of it's real capacity.

Thread needs solution

I restored my crashed 1GB to a new 2 GB drive. Windows Explorer shows the new drive as being a 1GB drive. I suspect this is because all the directory information came from the old drive. Is there a way to correct this problem, or did I waste my money upgrading to a larger drive?

If your operating system is Windows 7 or higher, and the OS partition is the last partition on your drive, you can use Windows Disk Management to increase the size of the OS partition to use the remainder of the drive. You could also use the remaining free space as a location for a new volume (drive letter) for storing data by creating a new simple volume and formatting it (also using Windows Disk Management).
