Restoring to New SSD

Running TI 2014 - I have created an DISK IMAGE of my current drive, including all partitions. If I replace my current drive with a brand new unformatted SSD and boot from the recovery disk will TI 2014 see the SSD as a location to restore to? or should I format it first?

Hi Martin,
This is all outlined in the user guide, but yes, the target disk should appear as a destination. If it doesn't, initializing the disk as outlined in the user guide will correct this.

Why, did I have to use my windows CD to to a repair in order to get the computer to boot after restoring the image?

I would say that the boot record was not recovered correctly and the repair disk was able to correct the error.

Yes I agree but why did this happen?

One place you might look woud be to compare the old and new disk in Windows Disk Management and see if
New disk partition placement matches on old disk. All in same position on new disk.
New disk active partition same as the same active partiton on old disk.

There were on hidden partitions and just one partition. Unfortunately the old disk has been reused elsewhere so can't be checked. It does raise concerns, what would happen if I didnt have a windows disc? I would end up with an unbootable system and my backup image would be pointless
