Restoring .tib as an additional primary non-active partition
Hey, all.
I am new to Acronis. I need to make machine backups here at work. Software used is Acronis True Image HOME 11.0 (build 8.053).
Machine software runs on Windows XP (IDE disk). There is a backup of such disk (xp.tib). Idea is to restore xp.tib in a SATA disk that already has Windows 7 as active partition.
Attempt procedure was the following:
- Shrink Windows 7 partition to create unallocated space;
- Run Acronis and restore xp.tib as primary partition in unallocated space, keeping Windows 7 as active partition.
Idea was for the computer to now have 2 bootable partitions (Windows 7 and Windows XP). Problem is that there is no menu coming up at startup for choosing between the 2 operating systems and computer always boots to the active partition, i.e. Windows 7.
Windows XP partition seems to be correctly installed. At least files are present at Hard Disk Drives list on "My Computer". However, accessing Startup and Recovery settings at System Properties, only option at "Default operating system" list is Windows 7.
Any clues on what is going on are greatly appreciated. As well as tips for achieving goal using other method.

Hello, Steve.
Thank you for the tips. Very interesting tutorial on how to make dual boot work if you already have Windows 7 installed.
However, my problem is a bit different since I am not installing Windows XP from a boot CD. What I have is a backup .tib file whose OS is Windows XP. Backup is restored but PC boots into Windows 7 anyway.
