Restoring Win 7 Pro to new mobo - Universal Restore not working; "Device driver... cannot be found"
Hi! I'm trying to use TIH 2013 Plus Pack Universal Restore feature to migrate a Win 7 Pro image from an old mobo (AMD CPU, Nvidia graphics, etc.) to a very different new mobo (Intel Series 6 chipset, etc.). Extracted device drivers (.inf, .sys, .cat, etc.) files for the new mobo from Intel driver packages and put them all on a USB stick. Set up the recovery using bootable TIH CD, checked Universal Restore option and specified path to directory containing drivers on USB stick. Restore appeared to be going well, until I got a message telling me "Device driver 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26&SUBSYS_20028086&REV_05' for 'Windows 7' cannot be found." Now, I assume that the way Universal Restore works is that it scans the mobo PCI hardware for device information (Vendor ID, Device ID, etc.), then looks for .inf files with matching information, so it can edit the Registry to associate the PCI hardware with the correct drivers. Looking at the files extracted from the Intel driver install bundle, I found that "cougusb.inf" contains the string "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26" so I believe this is the right file for this device. Also, I saw that "cougusb.inf" contains the lines "Include=usbport.inf" as well as "Include=usb.inf". Based on all this I went back and added these .inf files to my USB stick, as well as all the .cat, .sys, .dll, .pnf etc. files that I could find any reference to in the different .inf files (actually included every driver-related file that appeared to have anything to do with USB, just for good measure). Tried restoring again and got the identical "Device driver... cannot be found" as before. As a last resort, I even edited "cougusb.inf" to append "&SUBSYS_20028086&REV_05" to the "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26" strings, thinking this might make a difference to TIH. Still no joy.
So I'm left wondering what I'm doing wrong. One theory - maybe Universal Restore isn't 'smart' enough to interpret the "Include=usb.inf" and "Include=usbport.inf" lines in the "cougusb.inf" file, and associate the referenced .sys files with the device hardware? To get around this, could I create a custom "cougusb.inf" file that got rid of the "Include=..." lines and brought the contents of ""usbport.inf" and "usb.inf" directly into the new "cougusb.inf"? Is this even possible? Am I even on the right track? Really I have no idea. One other thing (hoping this doesn't matter) - I got the "usbport.inf", "usb.inf", and associated .sys etc. files from a copy of Win 7 Enterprise, not Professional (both are 32-bit though) - could this make a difference? Anyway thanks all for any help you can provide!

Hi James, thanks for your help! Attached is the log file for my most recent restore attempt. Some things to note about this test run - when I got the initial "Device driver 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26...' cannot be found." error message / dialogue box, I first clicked "Retry", then waited for the error to reappear (came back pretty quickly), then clicked "Ignore". I immediately got another error message, slightly different this time as it called out Device 1C2D ("Device driver 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C2D...' cannot be found."). I kept doing this sequence for awhile (getting error messages, and alternately clicking "Retry" and "Ignore" responses in the dialogue boxes) until I got tired of it and clicked "Ignore all". After this the program ended, claiming that the restore operation was "Successful" (which it obviously wasn't, really). Anyway thanks again, really appreciate any help you can provide!

I haven't reviewed the log yet, but the "operation successful" message indicates that the restoration of the backup image completed. It is just that Univesal Restore failed to update the drivers. It should be considered a failure, but the image restore did complete. Have you tried booting the system after the restore to see if Windows 7 can recover on its own. Sometime even though the Universal Restore fails to update drivers, Windows 7 can sometimes boot and repair itself. It may take several reboots to get Windows to properly detect the hardware changes. This does not always happen succesfully.
Since you are entitled to support for your 2013 product, you should open a case with Acronis Support and request help with this issue.

I will take a look at your log to see if I can help in the meantime. I'll post after doing so when I have time later today.

I would try doing the following:
Download the Intel Chipset installation utility (Zip Version) http://downloadmirror.intel.com/20775/eng/infinst_autol.zip and extract the Win7 driver folder to your usb stick. Also download and extract the Intel RST F6 floppy driver package for your version of Windows 7 (32bit http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21730/eng/f6flpy-x86.zip or 64 bit http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21730/eng/f6flpy-x64.zip ). Copy the .inf, cat, and .sys files (I think there should be five files) to the same folder on your USB stick. Delete any other driver files you are trying to use off of the USB stick. Do not try and use any .inf (or associated files) from an installed version of Windows, as these are not for use during an install.
You didn't specify the size of the hard drive in your new system. If it came originally setup as a GPT disk, and is over 2.2TB, you may have a problem with a successful restore. If the drive is less than 2.2TB, you should use the Acronis "add a new disk" option before starting the restore and initialize the disk as MBR to restore to a clean disk.

I have same proplem. I have 2 old HP notebook. First is HP Compaq 6735b and second is HP DV6158eu.
I take full backup from 6735b harddisk (Window 7 Ultimate 32) by ATIH 2013 with plus pack installed and try to restore backup to HP DV6158eu using Universal Restore option adding driver path pointing many directories ie USB stick and also current windows\inf, windows\system32\drivers,
and windows\system32\Driverstore. All drivers are also in USB harddisk and USB stick and CD. I get every time same error PCI/DEV.... cannot be found..
I start ATIH from USB hardisk (Xboot multiboot menusystem) and restoring to same PC work OK.
I try to retry but it not work. I get only three errors
Device driver PCI\VEN_10&DEV_026D&SUBSYS_30B71D3&REV_A3 cannot be found
Device driver PCI\VEN_10&DEV_026E&SUBSYS_30B71D3&REV_A3 cannot be found
Device driver ***HPQ0006*** cannot be found
I dont remember exacly the last error. Where i find those drivers and what are those missing devices?
I get blue screen when try to boot from restored HDD. I try to find out what these drivers are but not found yet any such driver.
Can I copy some directories from working PC to drivers CD or what to do next?

Are you sure the PCI\VEN_10... information you posted is complete. Normally the PCI\VEN_XXXX number is longer than two characters(normally four, ex. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_026D...). The vendor ID number is the manufacturer of the device.
I found these on the web
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_026D&SUBSYS_30B7103C&REV_A3 - USB OpenHCD standard
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_026E&SUBSYS_30B7103C&REV_A3 - PCI vers USB standard
These are close and are USB host controllers, they would not be necessary for booting properly.
I really need to see the full log or copy and paste of the actual errors to help find out what drivers UR is looking for.
The HPQ0006 is the HP Quick Launch Buttons driver.
It should not be needed for a sucessful restore. The utility to install them could be downloaded from HP and installed after a successful boot.
You could post a log here for review, but your best bet would be to contact Acronis customer Support since this is a restore issue, and they offer no charge support for restore issues. You could contact Customer Service here: http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html.
First try to boot the system in safe mode to see if you can actually get Windows to boot. If so, you could run msconfig and disable all the startup items as well as all non-Microsoft services, then reboot. If you can still boot, then add the startup items and services back one at a time to see which may be causing the BSOD.
If starting in Safe Mode does not work, you could try booting to your Windows 7 System Repair Disk or Windows Installation Disk, and try running the Windows Startup Repair to see if it can fix your Blue Screen issues. Normally when Universal Restore fails to install all the drivers it detects, the actual data has been restored sucessfully, but the bootablility of the system is still in a compromised state. Sometimes the Windows Startup Repair can correct it, other times not. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones.
Please keep us updated.

I'm having the exact same issue...
"Device driver 'PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26&SUBSYS_04F51028&REV_04' for 'Windows 7' cannot be found. Place the driver on a removable media or in folder 'E:\Drivers\' and click Retry."
Crepitus is correct, the cougusb.inf contains the driver it's looking for. After doing a google search I double-checked the driver. It's for the "Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller".
Any ideas to fix this, my support has ran out and I can't email Acronis through http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html. The option is greyed out; only the forums are available for us folks with no maintenance contract. Unless you want to Pay-Per-Incident.

Frommy,
If the error you are getting is only for the USB controller, you should have no problems booting your system, as this is not necessary for boot and will be updated by Windows after first boot. Did the restore sucessfully complete other than the drive injection phase of Universal Restore? (You would have to check the log files to be sure). Universal Restore injects drivers into the newly restored OS after the restore of the backup image to the target hard drive. What happened after you tried to boot? Did you try to boot in safe mode or VGA mode?
Recovery issues are normally at no charge from Acronis. On the Customer Support screen, in Step 1, on the left hand side pulldown, select "Customer Care", and on the right hand side pulldown, select "other", then use email or chat, your choice, to report your problem with restoring using Universal Restore.
