Saving and restoring just the exact placement etc details of the partitions
Hi folks,
1) Is it correct that ALL the information the OS needs relating to the exact sizes, exact placing, types, active status etc of the partitions on a drive is stored in the partition table which is part of the Master Boot Record or MBR?
2) And that on a MBR disc, there is only one partition table? (i.e. restore it there and there's no possibility of overwrite from elsewhere)
3) Imagine that I did not have a backup of the entire disk, but did have backups of every individual partition and, separately, of the MBR.
Is it correct that I could zero out the entire disk, restore the MBR which would mark the exact positions of each partition, such that I could then restore any and/or every partition to the **exact place** it was at the time the original backup was made?
4) ...and if the latter, the result would be the same as if I had restored from a full backup of the entire disk?
5) Clearly TI stores all the data relating to the placement, sizes etc of all the partitions when it does a whole disk backup, but it does not seem to do it if it backs up only individual partitions. If that is the case, is it possible for True Image to back up...
- just the (whole) MBR of a disk? (i.e. without any of the files/folders from any partition?)
- just the partition table of a disk? ( " " ?)
If so, how?
Thanks in advance
