searching for updates .... forever?
I have a 3PC license for Acronis Home 2011. One of the PCs on which the software is old but it still works well as a server. Because it is memory constrained, I do not use it for internet access at all anymore.
I started a backup of the 160GB drive that is on that computer and, when I checked a while later, the backup was running but there was a notification that there was an update to install. I expected to see this notification before the backup started but I guess it took a while for Acronis to notice.
I started downloading the update and figured that it was unwise to do that while I was performing a backup so I canceled the backup and the update download so I could start over again.
I rebooted the computer to ensure that all was clear and started Aronis again, with my first task being search for updates. That task would not start so I downloaded the latest version from Acronis, rebooted my computer again, and set about a manual update with the downloaded files.
Immediately after I clicked "proceed" on the update install that I had manually downloaded, Acronis went into a loop "searching for updates." That started 2.5 hours ago.
My questons are these:
1) If I have the latest version, why would the installation assume that it needed to look for updates?
2) How can I set up Acronis to NOT perform this search for updates at initialization?
3) Has some sort of "flag" been set in the registry that informs Acronis that it didn't finish an update?
4) Should I just uninstall the software from the old computer and reinstall it using the latest version or would I still have to wait for the darn software to seek out updates that it already has in hand?
Has anyone else run into this??????
