Set up custom incremental backups - only get fulls, every day - TIH 2011

Details are in the attachments. I keep running out of space for backups because it will not do incrementals. I'm running build 5519.

Well, I manually deleted all but the first file shown below. Then it started working, seemingly. But, yesterday it started a full again, after only THREE incrementals, not FIVE as I specified.

I assume you made some changes in your backup scheme. Posting an update picture of the new scheme might help.
A repeat question from my prior post.
Are they backups being initiated by an Acronis schedule
or run manually from inside the TrueImage program
or, are any of these backups being created from a dektop shortcut or batch file or Windows Scheduler?
Also, are these backups directed to an external drive or network storage?
I am trying to get the sequence of execution of these backups tasks.

No changes, other than deleting all but the one file - just to see what would happen next.
Sorry, I posted that in a hurry as I was leaving for the day. The backups are on an Acronis schedule. I created the Job within Acronis, schedule it there, then let it run. The destination is an internal drive.
When I first installed 2011, I selected the new scheme that makes one backup (to keep until I delete) and then another followed by what I thought was incrementals. At some point in time it (according to the animation) would create another full and eventually delete the prior one and its incrementals. But, it kept creating full backup images each day. So, thinking it was broken, I chose custom and essentially the same scheme. With similar results.
It's troubling that TIH keeps some imbedded count of what backups it thinks exists. Referring to the 5 in 2TBD5 above. It started out a 1 of course. But even after I deleted the others it kept bumping it. Are these designators documented somewhere?
Now that I read this http://forum.acronis.com/forum/14370#comment-43510, and this http://kb.acronis.com/content/13656 - maybe I need to start over. It's clear that the new version chain scheme uses differentials, whereas I was 'thinking' incrementals. Although I disabled the Windows defragment schedule task, maybe something else is happening to BOTH my disk to make TIH create a differential that is the same size as a full.
Back to the numbering scheme - if the numbers in parenthesis (http://forum.acronis.com/sites/default/files/forum/2010/10/15734/acroni…) represent differential 1, 2, and 3, then it was probably working as designed but somehow convinced that everything on the partition had changed since the last differential, requiring that EVERYTHING be backed up again.
It would be nice if they logged some info about what happened, like starting full, or starting differential.
I can at least say that the backup engine is robust having done so many full backups everyday without a single glitch. BUT, as for managing the backups after they are created, not so good.

Thank your for the detailed info. If you really dig into some of the links you posted, more documentation is available but it certainly is not apparent.
Yes, The number in parentheses is the number of the full backups. The number inside the parenthesis will keep increasing until who know when and even if you empty the folder, the next full will be the sequential number as if the deleted items were still there.
I would strongly urge that you best guess how many chains you want to keep and set that figure for the chains to keep and then let TrueImage do its own deletion and consolidation.

That's what I had tried to do but it just kept doing fulls and not deleting the older chains. But, it seems to have started working on its own. Aside from what's physically on disk, TIH must use some other internal mechanism to decide when to do a full. Now I've got a full, followed by 5 incrementals, followed by a new full - just what I'd expect.

Yes, TrueImage does; not count the files inside the folder but uses its own meta-file to track which backups have been created. So, when we delete files, TI goes awry.
I believe you have solved your issued about consolidation if you make no further edits.
Note the attachment inside this link (post #5). It shows the successful results of one test I run whereby the proper number of backups were created and the proper number retained.
