Simplified user interface

Thread needs solution

Is there a simplified user interface for True Image 2014 that lets one manipulate backups using Windows Explorer without causing True Image to throw errors? Older versions of True Image, e.g. Workstation, made this trivial.

It will be difficult to adopt True Image 2014 if we can't easily move/copy/rename/delete backups using Windows Explorer as we did using older versions. Please advise.

Cheers and thanks.

Perhaps someone from Acronis will see this and respond differently.

When TrueImageHome version 2012-2013-2014 adopted the Meta-history file process (or whatever it is called), the program began to track everything and all functions must be now performed from within the program. Any use of Windows Explorer to delete or rename the files causes the user untold grief and the program ceases to function correctly--if at all.

The user CAN assign a custom backup name to the backup file (at time of task creation--not later) but the program will add additional suffix to that name. This suffix cannot be removed or renamed if the backup is to continue to add future backups to it. Here is more discussion on what is added.

The target storage disk must be attached at time of task creation and this is the only disk where the backup will store its files during a successful backup. The use of multiple storage disks off the single task is not possible. Each target storage disk must have its own backup task.

Here is the method needed to delete tib files from a working backup.
GH5. How to delete backup files using Acronis Backup 'Explorer'

Many of us have found that the program will work and do its job if the user follows its instructions.
I have gathered up many of these and placed them in a guide such as my signature link 2A plus the links inside that guide. I believe any user of any experience level would find this 2-A guide to be helpful and it will help the user to get through the extensive learning curve which now accompanies the use of version TrueImage Home.

How does one handle off-site storage? With old Acronis, we simply swapped disks, and everything worked fine. We used file name conventions to track backups, and we had years of no hassle service.

We've not formally tested moving disks offsite, but last week, we did remove all Acronis-related media from a server that had been doing scheduled Acronis backups. After reboot, this system quickly became bogged down with numerous copies of the same process being started. After deinstalling Acronis and reinstalling, everything seemed fine.

Is this an example of the grief one hits with new Acronis?

What is the recommended replacement? Will the golden oldies versions of Acronis function on Windows 7 & 8? If not, what is one to do?

Cheers and thanks.

You can try Acronis Backup 11.5 . All archive meta-data is stored in a file next to archive itself and not in a central database. An archice copied to a different location does not get confused with the original one.

Thanks for your help, we will shift our evaluation to Acronis Backup. We thought the consumer oriented True Image Home would be simpler to use than the professional Acronis Backup for PC, but not.

We would appreciate a contact in Acronis sales who is technical enough to understand what we need to do, and to assure us that Acronis Backup for PC will, indeed, let us continue our current backup procedures, including migration of physical media. We were quite surprised to find that True Image Home doesn't cope well with physical media changes, and want to quickly move to Acronis Backup if it solves the problem.

Cheers and thanks.
