Single Version Scheme problem

Thread needs solution

I am running Windows 7 x(64), Acronis True Image 2015 Single Version Scheme and expecting the previous backup to be written over but I end up with 2 backups taking up too much space. I am running it manually along with Verify at completion. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong.

Thanks..........Ralph

Acronis will always FIRST complete a new FULL backup, before erasing any existing backup or backup chain. Therefore, you always need enough backup space for an additional new full backup.

uI have four separate drives and run two backups. Both are set to Single Version Scheme. Neither works properly:

(C) drive backs up to (F) and now has three versions.

(G) drive backs up to (H) and has two versions as I had to manually delete some version to create enough space. The program tells me that the last backup was Tuesday, August 5, 2014 (I installed Acronis 2015 in April 2015).

Most times when I try to delete the old .TIB file manually I get an error saying that the file is open in COM Surrogate. If I stop dllhost.exe it immediately restarts and holds the file. There is a tiny window of opportunity between stopping dllhost.exe and deleting the file. If I am quick I can ofttimes delete it.  This is not acceptable.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 but the bug was there prior to that, on Windows 7.

I have opened a bug report  [02576160] Unable to delete backup .tib file [ ref:_00D30Zcb._50050hsD0R:ref ]

Raputtak,

A lot of things might be going on if you had Win 7 and upgraded to 10, etc.  YOu migiht want to consider running the TI Cleanup utility for 2015 and then do a fresh re-install. Item 4 inside my signature below.

In my opinion, each time you changed the settings inside a backup task, you are causing yourself grief. If changes needed, start a new task.

You need new tasks anyway, why not set up your backups tasks so oldest tib files are deleted automatiacally so manual deletion by you is not necessary, as deletions by user usually cause problems.

I don't know what type backups you use (full or inc or diff) but here are a few examples (GH11, GH12,GH13) which has automatic cleanup built into the scheme.

The automatiac cleanup is the setting "store no more than (n) recent version chains"; or the setting "delete older than (n) dayis."

------------------------------------------------
Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type.  These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups.  These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended.  Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually  better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.
