(solved and now happy) Not happy with Acronis..... might move to another product after the licence runs out.
Don't get me wrong .. I like the software but.............
I just upgraded my old true image to 2011 home and now you release 2012 ? less than one month later and want me to pay ANOTHER $40 for upgrading ?????
NOT happy ....
Had I known a new release was just around the corner I would have waited.

The activation, just registers the PC name to your Acronis account - so if you purchase the new 3 licence edition it and you can keep track of how many licences can be used. You also get the ability to remove the product from a computer and then install it on another, the activation ensures you can't install it on more than 3 PC's or in the case of a single licence 1 PC at a time.
It is also used for the remote synch feature amongst PC's.

Activation is NOT the issue.
I have the 3 licence version.
What is annoying me is the fact that I just paid for an older version of this program when the developers knew damn well a new one was just around the corner.

Phillip,
I understood that Activation wasn't your issue, I was sort of answering Quatrix and give a general explanation for others that came across this thread.
I'm afraid this is a perennial issue with Acronis as far as new versions are concerned. Personally once the product goes final beta or perhaps earlier my instinct would be to advertise a new version in the offing and then people could decide whether they wish to wait or go ahead and purchase.
Currently Acronis doesn't include upgrade versions in their 30 day policy, it has to be a 'full' version.

Yes .. well... I don't really care what is going on with acronis.
All I know is I feel a bit hard done by.
I will be looking at other alternatives when my licence is up for renewal.

I just realised .. it doesn't come up for renewal ......
Looks like I am stuck with this version till it does not do what I want it to do.
THEN I will be looking.

Acronis has been coming out with a new version of ATI since at least ATI 8. The marketing cycle controls the development and production cycle. Come this time next year, you can expect to see ati2013. I don't base this on special inside info, just on past behavior.
If you bought ati within 30 days, you should be able to get a free upgrade, unless you bought ati at some discount. Unfortunately, what the customer service reps or tech reps might tell you can vary so you might hav to contact them more than once to get a knowledgable rep.

I bought within 30days .. but it was an upgrade. I will ask them and let you know in the forum.

OK..... It seems I can't email Acronis directly here without paying.
Are you going to upgrade me ?
I can't even use the acronis true image home 2011 product for a Win7 cloned backup of the C: drive because it's got the windows EFI boot partition in it !

Now I have to pay for another 2 upgrade licences just over a month after I upgraded already !!!!!
I AM NOT HAPPY .... NOT AT ALL.
I FEEL LIKE GOING ON TWITTER FACEBOOK AND BLOGGING JUST TO WHINGE ABOUT HOW HARD DONE BY I FEEL. !!!!

What are you on about? You said you "upgraded old ATI to 2011" which means in theory you have two licenses. If you've registered either of these you should have no trouble contact Acronis support/customer service.
I think though that there are plenty of KB articles here describing what you are entitled to wrt 2012 depending on when you purchased your 2011 upgrade.
I wonder why you know you need 2012 anyway? If 2011 does what you want, be happy.

Nirupama Thankyou for your professionalism in handling my case.
Thanks also for taking the time to do a remote desktop session in order to sort it out.
Thank you too for putting up with my behaviour as I was very upset that the product did not do what I expected it would given that it was just over a month old.
Acronis .... you have a very patient and very understanding operator in Nirupama there !
And you now have a very happy and once again loyal customer who will be upgrading when next required !
Cheers and thanks again.
Phill.

I have 3 licences for 2015 which has proved to be as bad as 2013 was good. The so called support is the most dismal failure of any product I have seen since dos 5.1. The support which one only finds out one needs when the backup fails miserably as mine did is bound to be after the support period has expired. The list of backups regularly just wipes out for no reason and cannot even be manually restored using the add. I cannot even see a way of contacting the company to get the 2013 licences substituted where pretty well any other company just allows you to revert to its previous one with no problem.
There appears to be no way to publicise the amoral selling of this pathetically low quality product.
Just try a search for swap licence (either spelling)from 2015 to 2013 to see how the search delivers new standards of irrelevant tripe instead of any help.
Still I have shown three people how appalling it is and they have decided not to purchase it so far.

I see it's not just me. The product has serious flaws both in terms of bugs and in the very concept of a dumbed-down UI that won't let us address problems that should be possible; instead it *causes* the problems.
I suggest, Grumpy, that you blog about it. That's what I'm thinking of, once I calm down and can carefully enumerate and express the "concept" flaws and how they make the product unusable and not performing the express function for which it is meant.
