Specify Location of the Volume

Thread needs solution

Alright, so once again my backup chain appears to be failing. I'm using ATI 2011. This is the 3rd time I've had to start a chain completely over because the "volume" is getting lost.

I don't know what it is I'm doing wrong, if anything. The backup type is a Custom -> Incremental type with all default settings except for how the program manages the size of the backup, which is set to 500 GB max and cannot delete the first version. Also have automatic Validation.

Everything else is default.

The Error Message appears to be popping up during Validation.

The error is: Specify Location of Volume 2.

What can I do to fix this? I'm tired of deleting my backups and leaving my system at risk.

Hi Tom, Isn't that a pain!. But try a new task one more time except do the backup scheme this way. Set the option "keep no more than X number of recent version chains".

For whatever reasons, the options based on space or elapsed days does to not seem to work as well as the option to keep x number of chains.

Remember, allow enough extra space for TI to create the replacement backup before it will delete the oldest.

Adjust the 6 and 4 examples to fit your needs and checkmark "not to delete the original"--if that is your preference.

Do be sure you are using the last build of 2011 which is #7040 6942 (correction).

Edit: The last build also included some additional timeout settings for errors. Click on the cog wheel in upper right corner of program and adjust the "time out settings" to your preference.

Thank you for the reply. Here's what I've done since.

I booted into the Acronis Linux Shell and deleted the incremental versions then was able to revalidate the full backup version. I am now in the process of running another backup. I have changed the settings to make a full backup every four versions, to have no more than 2 recent version chains, and to not delete the first backup.

By the way, I tried to update ATIH2011 but the latest build I could receive was 6942; is there a later version that cannot be received w/ the automatic updater?

Thanks
Tom

The latest build for 2011 was 7040  6942 in the English version. This should be available for download from your own download page. I don't know about the automatic update--as I never use it. All my updates are done manually from the download page.

I am understanding you to say you have changed your settings to create a new full after 4 incrementals;
and to keep 2 recent version chains (2 fulls +some diffs) and to keep the original first full backup.
If you edited an existing task, you may have issues and may need to start over with a new task pointing to a new empty folder. Editing an existing task has proven troublesome for many and my recommendation is to avoiding editing. Much easier to start a new task--in the long run of time savings.

Correction:  for 2011 TrueImageHome, the 6942 is the last released build.  The 7040 related to another product--my error.

Grover,

No problem, all these numbers around us tend to blend together. The incremental backup I started this morning was finished when I got back and was successfully validated. Hopefully it will stick.

Thanks for your help.
Tom
