Speeding up backups to network locations.

Thread needs solution

If you are having trouble with slow backups over the network, try splitting your archives into chunks of no more than 20GB. Windows has a problem across all platforms where large file transfers across the network will slow to a crawl rather quickly.. my backups will start at 250+Mb/s and start slowing down after 20GB until the speed ends up at around 35Mb/s. This is over a gigabit connection.. you may have to split your archive into smaller chunks over a 100Mb/s connection. Use the task manager to watch network traffic to see the optimum size for your application.

Good tip cryto! Make certain that your NIC is set to use Jumbo Frames as well in the Device Manager properties screen. MTU values should be set at 1500 as well.
