Starting Recovery from USB-Stick wipes out Device-Manager Entry for internal Card Reader

Thread needs solution

Hi all!

I own a Lenovo ThinkPad W520. When I'm starting the recovery manager from an USB-stick (even without playing back a backup!), the drivers for the internal card reader will be wiped out. This is a really strange issue. No problem with Acronis version 2012.

The only solution to regain the drivers is to set BIOS default values.

I needed a "little" time to isolate and determine the problem and to find an appropriate and only solution (BIOS reset).

I've no idea why this is happening. Maybe anybody here who has experienced the same issue?

Greetings
Uwe

Does the W520 have a dual boot BIOS/UEFI firmware?

My Edge 420 has such a BIOS, if yours does, try setting it to dual where it auto sense the mode it should run in.

Are you using the original recovery CD environment on the USB stick or the one with the UEFI patch applied?

Yes, the W520 has a dual boot BIOS/UEFI.

I already set it on dual as I ever do. I'm using the self-made USB stick with UEFI. What do you mean by saying UEFI patch? Anything I don't know? I bought Acronis 2013 using the download version, paid by credit card. I always do that.

The entire software/drivers/BIOS etc. is updated to the latest status... as usual.
