TI 11 not completing backups and hogging all the CPU
I am having problems with TI 11 Home. It starts running its incremental backups and gets to about 82% complete and says it has only seconds to go but never gets any further. A check with the task manager shows 100% CPU usage. I have tried running the task manually. CPU usuage before starting the task is usually 2-6% but withing moments of the task starting, it goes to 200% CPU usage and gets no further. So far I have tried:
1. Uninstalling and re-installing TI.
2. Updating the driver with a patch I found mentioned on the forum.
3. Updating to the latest build.
Nothing has worked and I still can't get a backup to completion. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same problem trying to write to an HP MV2120 Media vault external hard drive
On two occasions, when trying to do a full data backup (6 hours duration - final file size about 127GB) the system has started to run at 100% CPU after about 4 hours and then the program just stopped working with only a couple % to go. Task Manager says TI is running but the display is frozen and the little icon has gone from the bottom right of the screen
The second time I got a runtime error message but it was empty and moving the message box around the screen made the display inside the box simply show remnants of the box graphics.
The backup file cannot be opened/read as it is "corrupt"
It is strange that I successfully managed to complete a disk image the day before.
It's nuts to have to wait 6 hours and then have the program fail. I've used TI since V6 and always had issues. Thank God I've only ever needed it twice and both times I could restore, though once only from a very old backup as the latest proved to be corrupt!
Please publish the solution.

Hello Allen,
If I understand you correctly you are trying to create a file/folder (My Data backup type) backup when the program freezes, but if you create full drive (My Computer backup type) there are no issues. Is it correct?
This is an issue in the compression algorithm of Acronis True Image 11 Home. The symptoms are the following:
- With backup compression enabled, Acronis True Image 11 Home freezes when trying to back up several thousand files and/or folders.
- With backup compression enabled, Acronis True Image 11 Home freezes when trying to back up System State in Windows Vista.
In both cases, invoking Windows Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL -> Applications) shows Acronis True Image 11 Home as Running.
When you back up the whole hard disk drives or partitions, Acronis product creates a snapshot of the system (see SnapAPI). When you run a file backup, the product creates a copy of each file and puts it into a TIB archive keeping the folder structure.
As a workaround, set compression level for the backup process to None. If you are not using the latest build 8101 you may want to update to it. I am not certain if the issue is addressed in the new build at this point, however it is generally a good idea to be up to date. You can download the latest build from your account under Registered Products.
I may also recommend you download free trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 and see if it works better for you.
Let me know if the issue persists or you have any other questions.
Thank You.
