TI 2010 build 6053 and windows 7 ultimate x64, a log of trials
I had a nasty wake up call with acronis being unable to restore an image I had done. This was my first issue with the software, but the first time I had tried to restore an image with 2010. Previous versions worked fine for me, and 2010 files had worked fine. Luckily I was able to recover data by mounting the image, trying to recover image flagged the tib file as corrupted, and the disk itself as fat32 which was nonsense.
I see a lot of users with the similar win7 issues. I have a new backup software, but will write this log of me using the TI again to see if my pain can help others. All of the help I got was from hours reading forum posts, rather than from acronis support. Its also a little self serving as its a placeholder for me to remember what I did.
I had to do a full reinstall of windows 7 with all up to date MS patches. The acronis software was completely uninstalled, and the other backup software, and this time I did not re-install the 'plus pack', just build 6053 TI 2010
My system is an Asus P5Q Deluxe with 2x samsung spinpoiint drives, 750GB
Q9450 @ 3.6 / 4GB ram. All hardware is perfect.
My disks disk checked okay, and I have reformatted the backup drive.
I was using diskeeper 2009 for auto fragmenting but have switched it off in case there is a software clash. The program did work fine for me before with TI 11 and vista x64 & XP pro SP3
I have switched off system restore on Windows.
I am only going to use TI 2010 's basic functions:
Backup / Verify / Restore files, and backup / verify image.
*I'll add posts when/if I get a good verify of a backup

Okay, went to asus website and download the latest drivers for chipset and sata, just to tick that box, even although windows update had sata at least.
Used the Acronis Add New Disk feature to format and setup the second drive to see if it likes it better this way.
Right now starting another backup, which should go okay, and will then attempt to verify it again.
*The first image backed up was able to be mounted okay, so at this stage I am confident that data backed up to image can be restored by drag and drop of a mounted image, by TI 2010, even although the image was flagged as bad by verification.
Will update thread later when these procedures have been done. If I get another verification error on the backed up image then I'll call it a day and wait until acronis fix it with a new build. Mean time I'll use TI 2010 for file backup only as described, and use a competitor for harddrive imaging.
If no software fix is timely, then I shall ask for a refund and never use Acronis again. This log shall show I have taken all plausible steps to make it work.

norrie
I'd create a TI boot CD and try booting it, then doing a backup, verify, and even a restore, (if you have a spare hard drive.)
Do all this from the CD.

I tried that earlier and it nuked my main drive, leading me to have to load win7 from scratch, so not going there again
Just came back to a crashed computer, black screened with hard drive heads moving. Had to reset and found from the log that it had done an image like before, but crashed during the verify - this is the first time that I asked it to do the verify on auto after the backup.
As before I can mount the image and get to the files, but that is all. No verify, and by inference, no restore.
Hope this saga helps others.
Acronis support, my time is not free, I would like a refund. I have no confidence in you doing an update fix soon after reading back to similar complaints on the forum from November of last year. By still marketing the product actively as win7 compatible you are taking away all the years of positive feeling you had. Only prior trouble free time has led me to spend all this time trying to get it to work.
Also, you should do more for support staff, as they are woefully represented in time. This forum is a self help group for unwitting beta testers.

I even tried this on my Dell Precision M6300 laptop with the same bad results.
So, I have formally contacted customer service to request my money back for the upgrade cost for TI 2010 * plus pack.
I did the request at 12:45PM GMT on Monday the 25th of January. My 'support time' runs out on 31st Jan.
Let us see how long the wheels take to turn or fall off the wagon.

bump, just got auto reply messages nothing else
I'm using shadow protect desktop, which works fine, although backing up same data is slower for complete process than acronis - but at least it works.
Incidentally, win7 image also worked fine on a test image.

I got my refund this morning, so saga over
Bitter-sweet as I am still disappointed with they way Acronis ruined a perfectly good happy long term customer, by pushing a broken '"upgrade" and then leaving me to flounder with no direct support. I only wish there were a way to charge them for my time. At least I (slowly and painfully) recovered my data from still being able to mount an image.
Thanks to the board contributors whom took the time to post their experiences. Hopefully you all get a working release soon.
I've voted with my feet, happily running storage craft shadow protect. I wonder how many more long time consumers are history Acronis. Way bad business decisions, going for short term gain over long term.
