TI 2010 can't find its own backups

Thread needs solution

It successfully did a file backup of all my photos (Win 7 64 bit OS), but when I try to browse the backup it errors with a message "windows can't find file" (the real tib file) followed by a long Hex string. The tib files are there without the Hex string (apparently) and I haven't changed anything since the backup. This is a 300GB backup with a large number of individual files, split into 81 tibs. What gives?

Thanks, but what's happening occurs when I try to recover or view a .tib file. The .tib files show up in Windows Explorer but I can't open them.

I don't understand why TI is looking for a file with the long Hex string appended to the filename. The .tib files don't have that. Is the backup catalog messed up?

I've found I can restore files from these backups. I still can't browse them - still getting the filename not found error when I try.

could you post a screen shot of the file names and error message?

The error message is

Windows cannot find 'L:\True Image\Photos81.tib\BD8DDE4C-012B-0000-B321-7242D4FEFFFF'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

The file is L:\True Image\Photos81.tib, which is the last file in the set. I get this error when I use the "Explore" option in TI Home 2010. I get similar messages with all of my other backup sets as well. Although I can restore from them, I just can't browse them.

Carl,

Are you able to mount the image?

I can mount those that are partition backups, not those that are file backups.

OK, that's correct. So this narrows the problem down to the shell extension for Windows Explorer.

Either part of the actual Explorer files are corrupted or the TI hook hasn't installed properly. It is also possible that some other software has caused the problem.

The first thing I'd try is a repair install of TI.

The hex part of your error message looks like a reference to a registry key.

I have already reinstalled TI Home 2010, so maybe it's an Explorer problem? I just ran sfc /scannow but it didn't find any problems. So, if a fresh installation of TI home 2010 doesn't work and the system file scan shows no problems, I guess I'll give up on using the "Files" backup option. At least I can browse files from a full partition image backup after mounting it.
