TI 2011 build 5105 final ... Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive
Cannot moiunt an image after upgrading my WIN7 64 bit to 2011 from 2010.
Error message "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive "
Explore works fine.

I tried one created with 2011 too. A small test one ... same result.
There is only one partition backedup.

Check in MSconfig and see if TIMOUNTER.sys is running. If it's listed but not ticked, tick it and reboot.
You might just need to do a repair install of 2011.

there is no timounter.sys or timounter.exe in win7 ... and I did a repair without any results/change.

I completely uninstalled and installed from scratch TI 2011 with the same results.
I should note that the first attempts to mount an archive after the initial upgrade and then again the first time after the clean install produced a blue screen of death mentioning classpnpsys.
Subsequent tries produce the error dialog mentioned above.
Perhaps the first attempt to mount an image tries to perform more tasks than subsequent ones.
Wouldn't surprise me if the the first attempt that procudeces the BSOD is the source of the problem somehow.

Same problem exists, and still does for me, in TI 2010, so not fixed in 2011 either.

Are you using Windows Home Premium as well?

There is obviously something preventing both Timounter and shell extensions from working properly in your copy of W7 itself.
I suggest making a sytem report and raising a support ticket.

It worked on my 2010 TI
And the shell extension shows up .
Regardless, I can't mount thru either the shell extension or thru TI directly.
The little clock shows up and spins for a minute and then errors out.

Thank you for posting and your kind assistance with this issue.
We would like to get the issue with the error "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive" resolved.
Unfortunately we have been unable to reproduce it in our testing environment, most likely it is caused by specific software/hardware environment or anything else that we have not been able to pinpoint.
If it is not a major inconvenience for you, would it be possible to provide us with the following:
1. Please try the solution from the following Knowledge Base article.
2. AcronisInfo report.
3. Can you upload the image that you are trying to mount to our ftp server? I will generate an ftp link and send it via a private message.

On my new Win7 64bit notebook i have exactly this problem. I have an addition though; When the mounting process is running, the drive (D:) actually shows up in the explorer and i can browse the drive and find all files - but after about a minute, the error appears ("cannot assign drive letter ......") and the new drive (D:) is gone again.
Did anyone find a solution to this problem???? I am really in trouble, since ALL my data from the old notebook is in that archive!

Hi again
i was able to make a new backup (image) from my old computer in a new folder. I can mount this correctly. BUT i had to copy ALL 54Gbyte to my local drive (from my network drive) in order to copy anything from the backup. I have NO clue why - the share normally works perfectly in all other situations.
Further more, all folders are closed (i dont have the rights to open them) - but if i copy the folders from the mounted drive to the harddrive, i can access the data/programs.
I must admit that all these strange issues makes me nervous about the security using this program as backup for my important data!!

What about exploring as opposed to mounting?
For some reason it appears that the SSID of your image isn't the same as the SSID of your PC hence the reason you can't open the folders. I think the network is the cause of this problem.
Are you able to make an image to a direct attached USB drive at all and see if that mounts or explores properly?

If you suggest, that the wireless network is the problem i doubt it, since both the backup (image) from the old computer, and the new computer is connected to wired network (ethernet 100Mbit).
If i misunderstand, please elaborate what the SSID you refer to is.

I mean the Security Identifier that Windows produces per installation for all it's files.
Again, are you able to Explore the image istedfor mounting it?
Have you tried an external USB drive yet and see if that works properly? We probably need to track down if the problems lies with your TIH2011 install, the network or a combination of both.

You are right, it is actually possible for me to explore the image, both on the fileshare and the local copy.
I think this helps my immediate problems.

I do have the same problem , running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and latest version of TIH2011.
The image is on an USB connected drive, it opens and when I immediately explore the content the partition stays connected, in spite of the message popping up, that no drive letter can be assigned.
As soon as I close the Explorer windows the drive is gone.
I can explore the image directly in explorer without mounting it.
PS: Funny, when I keep it drive letter open in Explorer for an extended time, the image stays mounted !!!

This problem has been seen before by me in ABR10, I think the problem was down to the SNAPAPI driver and Windows, but I'll have to see if I can remember how I overcame it, it might have been a registry entry. I'll report back.

I do get completely confused as this article points to a file:
system32\DRIVERS\snapman.sys
However this file is not installed, but pointed to in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\snapman
But after a repair the mounting and assigning drive letters works now,
but my confusion on how ATIH2011 works is as complete as before.

Snapman should be found in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet and will also appear in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Snapman

Hi Colin,
I can see theses entries.
But I am still puzzled why there is no file snapman.sys at all on my system drive.
I can find only snapapi.dll - do I miss anything?
