TI 2013 Can't Clone (Read errors) an SSD

Hi, I have an Vertex 3 MI 240GB that may be giving me problems. I tried to clone the drive, my boot drive, using True Image but TI gave me read errors, told me to run Windows 10 chkdsk /f and try again. I ran chkdsk after the required reboot and chkdsk ran to completion saying it fixed some things. TI still can't read from the disk at specific sectors on the disk so I am unable to clone it.

Any idea why TI 2013 thinks it can't read from the disk while chkdsk seems to think the drive's ok?

Joseph, the easiest workaround for you may be creating a backup of your disk with "sector-by-sector" and "ignore bad sectors" options enabled in backup options and then restoring created disk image to your new drive. If that trick does not work for you, you can go ahead and attempt to troubleshoot the issue with the Vertex SSD.

Chkdsk tool covers only part of possible issues with the disk. Acronis program makes its own checks, different from Windows` chkdsk, although they overlap in many parts.

OCZ, manufacturer of your drive, supplies a useful utility, called SSD Guru, which allows to evaluate the 'health' of the disk. I suggest you to download it from http://ocz.com/ssd-guru, install and see if there are any issues detected.

Another approach is to use your operating system`s own journals to see if any persisting problem is detected: open Start menu, type eventvwr.msc, hit Enter, click on Windows Logs, then System. Click on "Filter Current Log..." link at right edge of the window and mark 'disk', 'Disk' and 'Ntfs' in"Event sources" drop-down menu. Mark checkboxes 'Critical', 'Error' and 'Warning' in "Event level" section. Click OK to apply that filter. In the upper half of the window you will see the list of all issues with disks that Windows has detected, sorted from newer to older. By clicking on each entry you can see details of the event.

Usual actions that you may be able to take to fix the problem on your own include opening computer case, re-connecting the drive with a different cable (to a different port, if possible). If there any hardware-related problems have been detected, you can consider bringing the drive to the computer service center.
