TI 9 to new hardware

Just a couple of questions and one statement. Running W7 Ultimate 32bit and am thinking of replacing most items in my desktop, Motherboard, Processor and Video card for sure. Would it be possible to restore an image from the old system hardware to the new or should I just do a clean reinstall? I read of the Universal Restore add on but am not even sure it is available for 9. I'm also thinking of going with a larger HardDrive and wonder if that would be a problem as well. I've read numerous items about ATI 9 not working on W7 but not a problem seen here with probably 2 dozen backups and restores. Haven't had ATI installed in years, just use a BootCD made long ago on an XP machine. Thanks

Apart from the Universal Restore option which is not available for TI9 Home, you can do a restore to the new hardware and then let Windows tell you that the drivers are wrong and need replacing etc. You can help a bit by uninstalling the drivers for your video card and just use plain vanilla VGA and make an image to be restored to the new hardware. You can also look at the MS Sysprep routine which is supposed to help when dealing with PCI buss devices.

While repairing Windows as described above does work, I prefer to reinstall the OS and apps from scratch. Normally, this is a chance to clean out the rarely, if ever, used garbage. You also remove the concern that some obscure problem that pops up later is because of the force fit of the old configuration.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I agree that a clean install is the way to go but facing a day of reinstalling programs and Windows is not my idea of fun.
