TI Home and WHS - TI does not see system drive

Thread needs solution

Greetings:

I have a new Windows home server installation where I would like to backup/image my system drive. Unfortunately, when I boot using the rescue CD the system drive is not shown as a drive to backup. Only my USB drive (which is the target for the image) shows up. How can I image this WHS system drive?

I am using True Image 11.

Thanks,
Scott

Try to download the latest bootable ISO from your Acronis account and create a new bootable CD with it.
When you say TI 11 are you saying TI v11 or TI 2011?

Scott,

Even if you are able to get TI to see the drive, be aware that imaging a WHS computer is not the same as a standard desktop/laptop. You would need to create an image of every drive in the WHS. When you restore, you have to restore every drive (sector-by-sector). You can't just image the system drive/partition and have it be functional later if you restore it.

It's generally easier to back up the data via WHS Backup or standard file copy and just rebuild the WHS if it needs it at some later date.

I was using version 11, not 2011.

Mudcrab: Thanks. I'm about to setup a large extrnal RAID array (I know that has challenges). So I don't want to (can't?) image that puppy. I'm really jjust workign on a holdover pieve until they get VAIL out or Beta, then I'll have to wrestle whatever issues it comes with. No sense beating myself up twice :). I woudl however like to be able to image and restore the current WHS so I can "play" and restore the image when I screw it up, instead of a full rebuild with drivers etc from scratch. I have a guide on clonign the system drive and the nevecssary edits, may give that a try.

But first I have to get it to "see" the drive. I had not thought of doign sector by sector, perhaps that will be helpful too.
