[TIH 2011 #6696] ftp backup does not delete older images

Thread needs solution

TIH 2011 #6696 on Windows XP Pro SP3, no additional firewall.
Synology DiskStation DS209+II - DSM 3.1-1613
Done: http://kb.acronis.com/content/13510
Backup (2 full disk complete harddisk backups to hold) to CIFS share on DiskStation works.

When I do ftp I get this (new backup should overwrite the older one, backup scheme: One Version):

(Date is DD.MM.YYYY, Time 24h clock HH:MM)

=====

I tried mostly all previous versions of Home Backup (TIH2010 and earlier), Professional Backup (TI Echo Workstation, Backup&Recovery Workstation), all paid - they all have several issues with ftp and I'm thinking now I should change the software vendor.

But maybe, you can help me solving this problem? Please.

Regards,
W.

Wolgang,

It looks like you have autoconsolidation turned on. Can you confirm?

If not, can you post a screenshot of your list of backup tasks and the backup scheme of each?

Autoconsolidation is turned on. If it's not, backup disk space runs full. I've first tried with no success 'Scheme: One Version' (doesn't delete/overwrite previous backup). 'User defined: Full Backup, Autoconsolidation: Save latest 3 backups' after 'User defined: Full Backup, Autoconsolidation: Delete Versions older than 3 days' doesn't work, too. They all mess up the image names.

Wolfgang,

You not the first user reporting an issue with deleting previous versions of the backup. I personally use incrementals or differentials and deleting previous version work perfectly on a USB disk.
I ran some tests on a network share. Backup scheme is full with keep only 1 version. Surprisingly, I see ATI create this temporary file with a key like suffix, just like you have. I was expecting a normal full backup name (with an integer between parentheses).
But anyway, the settings worked and I ended up with one file only on a nework share.

I guess that the final renaming/deleting doesn't work through the FTP connection.

Maybe a pre-backup batch command could delete the previous backup before starting the new one. Not elegant, but this might work.

Or maybe a tool like Chain2Gen works over FTP (I didn't try this either)

Better: Acronis fixes the bugs. To my surprise the latest Version of ATI Home 2010 is able to create at least a one generation full backup on ftp.
