TIH 6619 'Cannot open backup archive....no archive or it is corrupted'

Thread needs solution

Windows 7 64bit and backup to a NAS with an incremental scheme. Backups do validation every night, no errors reported.

Trying to restore to last night's incremental (1st incremental after a full the night before). I get the 'Cannot open backup archive on the specified device' error. I tried restoring from the GUI and from the 'F11' prompt, same message.

With my lhe last attempt from the GIU, I did the 'Validate' option from the optons screen. The archive validated fine, the system rebooted into the recovery environment, and I got the message. Went back to the GIU and checked the logs, there were no errors so looks like the validation worked fine.

So I conclude that the archive is there and it is not corrupt.

My NAS does require credentials to access the archive, so I am thinking this might be the problem.

Anyone seen and/or fixed this issue? Having unrestorable backups dilutes the value of the prouduct.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for finding time to report about the issue on Forum. I understand your concern, and will be glad to help.

It looks like the product cannot properly access NAS. Please make sure that you're asked to enter credentials when you're accessing the target folder. In order to do it, please enter the ip-address of the NAS, so it should look like \\[ip-address]\ and wait for a couple of seconds: you should be receive a credentials request pop-up.

In case it doesn't happen, or in case the issue remains, please gather

  1. Acronis Info
  2. Wireshark

submit a case with the information attached, and let us know it's number.
