TIH2012 crashes Windows XP

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I was very happy with all versions of Acronis True Image Home since several years, also with the 2012 version.
Until yesterday! I updated to the newest version of True Image Home 2012, and now nothing is as before.
The update procedure runs without any fault.
Also the program does run until I do start a backup. A few moments after beginning the backup process windows xp crashes and the pc turns off.
I deinstalled the program and tried a new installation, same fault.
I used a cleaunup utility, deinstalled DiskDirector with a terrible result: I couldn 't start my pc!
But I could restore an old image of my pc with the recovery disc.

What can I do?
Can I use an earlier build?

If you had the Acronis Disk Director installed at the time when you originally installed TIH 2012, the most likely explanation is installer failure to correctly update drivers and/or related registry entries for the device class filter services that use those drivers.

Unfortunately, not being able to see the actual results inside your registry, it is extremely difficult to offer safe and sound advice for dealing with the problem. Running the version-specific Acronis "cleanup" tools might help, but others have experienced disastrous failures with those too. Probably your safest bet would be to uninstall as much as you can using the normal Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" method and then try to install whatever TIH version you want again.

If that also fails, a pre-install backup or restore point is definitely the best thing to do. Run it from your bootable recovery disk.

Hi,

I don't mean to hijack this thread but thought I'd add my own experience here as I have exactly the same problem.

I installed ATIH2012 on a friends XP SP3 PC and it runs fine until I start the scheduled backup. The whole PC crashes within a minute of the task starting. I turned off auto restart in the XP recovery options expecting this would display a BSOD with an error code on the next attempt but it didn't. Upon restarting, the generic "your PC didnt shut down properly.. click here to send a report" came up. On clicking this it just took us to a generic page but it could not identify what caused the crash.

FWIW I run ATIH2012 on my own Win7 PC and it works perfectly.

Hope someone can assist in achieving the same on my friends XP PC.

Thanks for any info.
