Too many activations during product update

Thread needs solution

When I launched ATIH today, I received a message that there was an update available. I proceeded to download and install it. As my 2012 product was an upgrade, I had to enter SN of previous version. Seemed to go OK.

Then I started to backup. I am getting a message "Too many activations". Only choices to resolve are to deactivate a product on another computer (I have two other activated copies that I purchased, each with its own SN), or enter a new SN.

How can I resolve this?

Since I was stuck, I decided to see what deactivating a product on another computer really meant. When I chose this option I found that it only gave me the option to deactivate the product on my own computer. I did so and got the message that activation was successful. ATIH is now saving backup files.

Hopefully this is only a glitch for me. It wasn't a very friendly way to install an update.

By the way, it was fortunate I retained my copy of the 2010 product. Had I thrown it out, I would not have been able to provide the SN requested during the update. I understand the reasons for the activation process. But it can be very challenging for the customer.
