tried to update to new version

Thread needs solution

I tried to update to new version & it failed. It also corrupted the old version. Now I can't run or uninstall the old one. When I try to delete it manually I get an error message that I have no access. It won't let me reinstall it.

Zalman,

Uninstall any Acronis software you might have, in particular the Plus Pack,

Run the clean up utility found here http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545:

Create a "clean boot environment""
- launch msconfig,
- go to the services tab,
- make sure the "hide microsoft services" box is *un*checked,
- mark all services displayed,
- check the bot "hide microsoft services"
- unmark all remaining services,
- go to the startup tab,
- unmark all items,
- exit msconfig,

Reboot the computer and reinstall your Acronis software.

Um no offence mate but... I'm an IT Engineer and yes your correct, but this was the first thing I done and it still wouldn't open TrueImage.exe and this was on a barebones installation. I even tried it without the plus pack installed and it still done the same. Acronis has done this in the past and I stopped using it for a couple of months whilst they sorted out the bugs. no offence but Acronis does have a reputation for releasing updates and all hell breaks lose. I've been on a forum this afternoon and there are loads of people with worse problems than mine. its a bit damaging when you release an update with known issues knowing fully well it is going to cause problems. don't get me wrong I like True Image it's a great program but you mess things up by releasing an update with bugs and known issues, these should have been resolved before initial release. You done the same with 2011 and I stopped using it because it was dreadful. I don't want to cause an argument on a forum... I'm a responsible adult with over 10 years experience. I'm a beta tester, I'm a Linux and Windows specialist with certificates combining out of my ears. if I would have beta tested 7119 I would have spotted a potential problem. its a shame that Acronis has made the same error as before... its a shame that I have decided to take a back seat for the rest of the year and using another back up and recovery.

I used compatibility mode as well Vista SP1/SP2 and XP with and without Plus Pack installed made no difference. I even delayed TrueImage.exe from loading and it made no difference. I set it to Run as administrator as well no difference. reverted back to the previous version not a problem at all. worked like a charm.

Paul,
Try the following.

1. Download the actual installer file from your account, if you've been using the auto update version this might be corrupted.

2. Extract the MSI installer from within the TIH wrapper - so long as you can get to the TIH install menu splash screen, right click on 'Install' and select 'extract', run the resulting MSI installer file.

If that still fails and it doesn't give you the choice of viewing or saving the MSI installer log, it will be lurking somewhere in your User temp folder.
