True Image 2012 compatibility with Becrypt Disk Protect

Thread needs solution

Hi

I did quick search but I couldn't find Becrypt in True Image compatiblity list.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not True Image be able to clone Becrypt encrypted disk?

Thanks in advance.

Ashish,

The compatibility with encryption software is tricky.

In general, if the solution encrypts files individually, they are backed up encrypted/unencrypted at the point of backup, and restored the same way. It is generally important to backup the system at the same time since keys/passwords to decrypt should be stored along with the user profile. Regardless of Acronis, it is also important to backup the keys/passwords separately, so that you can reimport them if you do a fresh install.

If the solution creates software containers, you have the option to backup the containers when they are closed or open using a disk and partition backup. They will be restored with the rest of the data. Same comments about keys or passwords. In some cases, you can backup the files that are in the container, when the container is open. This depends on software compatibility and where Acronis will see the mounted open container. When backing up content of opened containers, you should consider encrypting the ATI archive with the built-in encryption to protect your data.

If the solution encrypts the entire disk, you can use ATI in Windows to backup the content. You should consider encrypting the archive. When you restore the data, you might have trouble booting with the restored image if it is the system disk. Fixing this can be possible or not depending on the software encryption solution. YOu will have to try. Another solution is to backup the disk sector-by-sector using the recovery CD. If the software solution relies on hardware/BIOS encryption, it is very likely that the image cannot be restored on other (similar) hardware.
