True Image 2014 Cloning

Thread needs solution

I'm having an issue with cloning a Win 7 Ultimate using True Image 2014. The Windows Update had stopped and a "This copy of Windows is invalid" message came up. I found that Search services had stopped running and would not restart, so I reverted to a clone backup I had made. After I had updated all the files to the backup drive I cloned (several times) it back to the large original drive.

Now, I boot on the clone and the search services won't run. I have tried several recommended fixs in the overload of worthless information in the hundreds of forums out the, including Microsoft with no help. Is it possible that the Seagate 2TB hybrid HD is causing the problem?

Help!

Welcome to the Forum,

First thing you should know is that Acronis True Image is not compatible with hybrid drives. That is probably why you had to clone several times as you put it so I am surprised you got things working at all.

To answer your question as to the likelihood of the hybrid drive being the issue I would say no,the incompatibility is the issue. Can you fix it? Possibly. What version of Windows are you using? Have you tried clearing the search index? Have you run Windows System File Checker? Since you have cloned can you start the search service now and/or is the service running? Does Windows Update work now? Do you have or have you noticed any issues with Windows Explorer?

Well, that's interesting that Acronis is not campatible with a hybrid drive. It will clone, but the windows update/indexing does not work and after a while, Microsoft says it's not a valid copy.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and I have cleard the index and run the file checker and the Microsoft Windows Update fixit tool with no help.

Yep, you might be on to something. However, when I got the 2TB hybrid drive, I did clone to it and used it, but I think that update worked. Hell, I don't know.

Thanks.

How interesting, my hybrid drive is not compatible? When I first got it, I cloned from another drive I was using and it worked. Something to look into though.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have deleted the search index and ran file checker. I've used the Microsoft Fixit utility for update, I've checked the service and have started it and it will stop and say some other service may have stopped it. Hell, I don't know.

Thanks for the answer though.

Well, I tried Paragon with the same results. Not being one to give up easily, I finally saw a comment on some forum AND a link to an INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY driver (I should have bookmarked it but I was so jaded I didn't believe it would work anyway) and when I installed it, it repaired the Windows Update issue. Damn!

Well how about that! Now here's one for you, the Intel IRST drivers are also incompatible with Acronis True Image. The reason is that the IRST drivers enable the use of the Solid State portion of the drive to act as a data cache. That cache hold user requested data intelligently so that the user has a faster more pleasant experience. True Image however sees the drive as uncommon with that cache. So when a backup is attempted the drive is greyed out in most cases.

I am not sure how Windows Backup deals with this but it may have issues as well. Never tried it so don't know. Below is a link about IRST, hybrid drives and the issues with True Image.
