True Image 2015 Installer Fails instantly

Thread needs solution

As soon as I start the executable from the website it fails instantly - see attached image.

Initially thought this was a Firewall issue but PC has been granted all outgoing TCP/UDP ports access.

Have reproduced on the following kit:

Windows 8.1 Professional
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Ultimate (Virtual)

All are 64-bit.

I can only assume this is an environmental issue and the %TEMP%\MSI installer log just has nothing useful as content.

Thanks

Two things I should have added:

1. This is the web trial version:
http://download.acronis.com/AcronisTrueImage2015_web_trial_en-EU.exe

2. I have tried this with admin and non-admin accounts.

Thanks

Anti Virus apps such as Avast can cause block issues such as this as well, you might try disabling your anti virus and run the install again.

I have managed to resolve this using SysInternals Process Monitor to see what it is trying to do at the point of failure.

All A/V had previously been disabled but I noticed that it was failing at the point of contacting the download website via our proxy server. Tracing this onto our proxy logs we could see the following:

0 192.168.10.151 TCP_DENIED/407 3298 GET http://download.acronis.com/liveupdate/{2FFCBE02-4402-42BB-8 4E7-17187EA7EA2F}/1/updates.xml - HIER_NONE/- text/html

I disabled proxy settings during the installation and it worked fine - so not quite sure what it was complaining about but problem solved.

I can see that the documentation for the software itself (once installed) does allow definition of proxy settings. I'll experiment with these.

Thanks

Nice find, I hadn't considered a proxy server in the mix, a bit uncommon here on this Forum. It is interesting that this created the problem.

Indeed - have not yet worked out why it caused the issue, the proxy / firewall was not recording the port but I suspect it was using a non-HTTP port for HTTP traffic.

At least I have a workaround and I do not plan to use the cloud backup solution so shouldn't impact evaluating the product too much.

Thanks
