True Image Home 2010 and windows 7 question

Thread needs solution

Hi Folks

Just wanted to check something, i have installed true image home 2010 build 6053, i used to use true image on my old pc and never had a problem. but can someone please explain why my backups are getting bigger, what i mean is that i created a full back up of my music folder this came to 3,684,523kb i then made a notepad file and put this into the folder (nothing else changed), i ran the backup again and it created another file and its size was 3,684,654kb, but i thought i was only supposed to back up the changes and not the whole folder again, i have tried it on Incremental and Differential backups but both with the same results.

Please can someone explain what i am doing wrong???

Thanks
Pete

P.s using windows 7 home premium 64bit

A full backup will always create a large image.

However with an incremental or differential it should only create a full image once and then subsequent images are altered sectors only.

Did you use the same name for the image?

If you just run an incremental it will produce a full image the first time.

Hi bodgy
No, i ran the incremental first, then i made a text document and put it inside the music folder then ran it again and got the file sizes i mentioned, but i think i have found out what's happened, i have diskeeper installed and i think acronis states that if you run a full backup and then the drive gets defragmented, the following incremental or differential can be around the same size as the full back up!!, i tested this by creating a full back up again, then running the back up task again straight away before any defrag had taken place and the incremental file was only 25kb, so i guess that's the answer??

Although i never used to see it do this before on xp?, does it also have anything to do with windows 7 shadow copy??

Thanks

Pete

I was going to mention defragmentation utilities based on your reply! :)

Be aware that I am unsure if DiskKeeper actually disables the Windows 7 defragger which is autoset to run every three boots. I have diskkeeper as well, and have yet to work this out. The W7 defragger can be disbaled by making a registry entry.

The W7 Shadow Copy, could cause a similar result, but it has been reported as being more likely to upset the actual imaging process - though I haven't found this myself, it has been reported on this forum.

Thanks Colin
im sure that the windows defragger is off but i will check, i dont really want to turn shadow copy off as it may come in useful one day!

Thanks again for you thoughts & comments

Pete
