True Image Home 2010 Won't Install on Windows 7 x64
I have a laptop running Windows 7 x64 Professional and purchased True Image Home 2010. I downloaded the program to my downloads directory and tried to run the TrueImage_s_en.exe file and get the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item." I've tried copying the file to a CD and it acts the same. I've tried running the application as Administrator, and have also logged into my computer as Administrator, but get the same error. I had just upgraded my home computer running Windows Vista to True Image 2010 and install went just fine.

Does the installer file look intact - got it's icon etc?
What happens fi you drag the installer file from your downloads directory and place it somewhere else, such as your desktop for instance?
Is your download directory on your machine or on a NAS or LAN somewhere?
Are all other files accessible in the directory?

Tried CCleaner and no difference. The files do look intact with icons, etc. I tried downloading it direct to my desktop and it acts the same. I also downloaded Disk Director Suite and it installs just fine. Both True Image Home 2010 and True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack act the same saying I don't have permissions to access the file.

There was one version of TI and DD which required one to be installed before the other, otherwise one of them wouldn't install/run properly.
Will TI install if DD is uninstalled?

I didn't actually install DD, but I knew the program would run because the installation screen came up. TI never got to that point and gave me the permission error right away (almost immediately). It's like TI is accessing something that requires a higher level of permissions, but not even Administrator permissions will make it run.

I wonder if it is registry that isn't allowing TI to install. Problem is I haven't the faintest idea of which key would need to be checked.
This laptop isn't one that has a work SOE installed by any chance?
Check in group policies and see if there are any restrictions.

Solved it. Our Sophos Endpoint Security and Control software specifically disallows installation of TI because of its on-line backup capability. I guess they don't want to allow a program on a machine that can send data out of the corporation without the IT department knowing it.
Thanks for your help.

I think it might be posible for your IT department to deny the OLB part of 2010 as far running it is concerned.
Otherwise it is either 2009 or ABR10 Workstation for your situation.
