True Image Home 2011 changes Accessed date of restored files?

Thread needs solution

I restored a backup I had made onto a new USB HDD and when it was done I checked some of the files. I noticed that all the Accessed dates had been changed to the day I restored the backup. I think this really sucks as I thought Acronis kept all of the dates the same and not changed them. Is there any option in Acronis for it to not change the Accessed attributes of a file? It looks really random having this full backup with that part of the date being different to the rest.

When you restore, you can modify some parameters in the restore options. One of them is whether to change the date, the other is whether to change the security settings.

Hi Pat, thanks for getting back to me. For a test I imaged one folder and then went to recover it so I could examine the options. I go to Advanced --> File Recovery Options, and the only options I see to do with the file dates is "Set current date and time for recovered files", which I don't have checked. Yet Acronis still recovered the image I mentioned in my opening post with modified Accessed dates. =(

I personally don't pay attention to the accessed date as this is driven by the OS. So to realize what was going on, I ran some tests and I can confirm that ATI does change the access date, but not the other dates (modified date and created date are unchanged). I don't know of any setting to change this. I am not sure this is a bug as the file has been accessed as a matter of fact.

Notwithstanding I don't have a workaround, may I ask why you find this an issue?

Damn. So does ALL recovery software change the date of the restored files in some form? There being no prior warning of this in Acronis's literature makes me think it's "the norm" for recov. software to do this. It's pretty annoying.

PS: Pat, it's an inconvenience that all my files will have an incorrect date attached to them. I like keeping my files and PC tidy and in order, so the wrong dates is a bit jarring for me.

I don't know what other backup software do. I have several of them, but I never look at the accessed date. I look at the modified date often, sometimes at the created date.
