True Image Home 2011 Update 2 build 6868 Is Unstable

Thread needs solution

I can no longer perform backups as I have in the past with this latest update. I encounter blue screens of death at what I believe is the validation phase of the backup. I've never been present to see at what point the process fails, but each time I start True Image Home, I see that the backup had successfully completed.

At the previous BSOD I actually managed to see, it was an error related to the Intel gigabit network driver. I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard with all the latest drivers. Previous builds of True Image Home did not have this issue, so it appears to be a defect in your latest build.

This is extremely disappointing. Can I download the previous builds that worked correctly?

Thank you.

Just to follow-up, it looks like the backup I create with this latest build has issues. In Windows Explorer, when I right click the tib file created from the crashed session then click Archive | Validate, nothing appears to happen at all. I see TrueImage.exe*32 appear in Windows Task Manage for a brief moment then disappear.

When I repeat this same thing for another backup I had successfully created with an older build (that did not crash Windows), I see a pop-up message appear on my desktop stating the operation has started.

Something is definitely wrong with this latest build.

I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

Jamil,

I have the same motherboard and Intel NIC and my system is very stable. Try to uninstall your Intel drivers, reboot and install the latest version.

Jamil,

I just saw your second post. Check whether all Acronis services are running (run services.msc). If yes, try a repair install of ATI. If this doesn't fix the issue, uninstall ATI, reboot and reinstall. Start new backup tasks/chains.

This was actually the first thing I tried.

I uninstalled the PROWin7_64_v16.3 drivers followed by downloading and installing the latest PROWin7_64_v16.4 drivers.

It still crashes Windows.

Again, it's only with this latest build. The backup appears to not be valid for whatever reason. Validation of backups created with previous builds are working fine.

If I can download an older build, I will be functional again.

I am currently running a validation of a previous backup I had created, so I will have to try uninstalling followed by reinstalling at a later time.

For services, I have:

Acronis Nonstop Nackup Service
Acronis Scheduler2 Service

both started and running.

I can uninstall, but when I reinstall, it will be a much older build (that actually will work and not crash, so this could actually be my answer). I just will not do updates.

Set your computer to do minidumps when the system crashes

Control Panel\System and Security\System, Advanced System Settings > Startup & Recovery > Settings

A mini dump is easier to interpret http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263

This could help you verify the source of the BSOD

The restore was still running and would run for at least a couple hours more. I just canceled it followed by a full uninstall then reboot.

I plan to install the older build I have saved on my NAS. I know this version works, since I had used it successfully several times in the past.

I'm unfortunately not able to help debug what is broken in this latest build.

It's not build 6868 of True Image Home that is the issue. I encountered another BSOD when I attempted to backup using build 6597 of True Image Home. The BSOD this time was for NDIS.SYS. Something else is causing this issue. My last full system backup was on June 17, so some change after that date has introduced this.

I suspect the issue is Raxco's Perfect Disk 12. It has some new feature that prevents defragmentation in the background, and I suspect that is causing the issue. I am unable to uninstall this software though, and I have lost all system restore points prior to installing it for some reason. It has some PDAgent service that will not stop. Disabling the service then rebooting results in BSODs upon reboot and logging into Windows.

I have booted from my USB stick that contains a bootable Acronis True Image. I will restore my June 17th backup that does not contain Perfect disk then attempt another complete backup with validation.

I will post another update when I have more info.

I performed a full restore of my C: drive from my June 17th backup. The version of True Image Home from this backup is 2011 Update 2 build 6857. Also included on this backup is my previous version of Perfect Disk, which is 11. After restoring this backup, I updated all software I have installed except for Perfect Disk to the latest updates. I then performed another backup and verification that worked without issue as it has in the past.

It looks like the issue is Raxco's Perfect Disk version 12.

Thanks for sharing. This is probably a low-level driver conflict. You should check with Raxco. Maybe you can turn off some feature of Raxco to solve your issue.
