TRueImage 2013 won't run when my external drive is plugged in
If I have my Western Digital Passport 1TB plugged into a USB port and then I run TrueImage 2012, the User Interface never comes up. The TrueImage.exe process is running with no CPU and no increase in memory during that time. I waited 20 minutes for it to come up and gave up.
If I run TrueImage 2012 without the external drive plugged in it comes up. If then plug in my drive, TrueImage pauses and I get the blue swirling circle for about ten minutes. Then TrueImage starts to respond. However, if I attempt to backup to the external drive, I get a disk read error. I ran chkdsk overnight on the external Western Digital Drive and it reported clean. I ran chkdsk on my C: drive and it came back clean. When I run Western Digital Lifeguard on the external drive, it passes all the tests. All data shows that my drives are good.
My PC has an Intel i7 960, 128 GB SSD, 500 GB WD HDD, Windows 7 Home.
My wife's laptop has TrueImage 2013 and the same symptoms appear on her laptop. It is an HP UltraBook with 128 GB SSD, an I5 CPU, and Windows 7 Professional.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had so much trouble with TrueImage between the external drive and trying to get the cloud storage to work that it has taken up more time than I have and I let the support period expire. But so far, the products are useless to me.

Scott,
Check in Windows Task Manager that there are not duplicate instances of True Image running.
Have you tried performing a repair install of True Image? Run th einstaller again and select 'repair'.

Thanks for the reply.
There were not two processes in Task Manager.
I tried reinstalling TrueImage and that didn't work.
So I borrowed an external drive from a neighbor and it worked fine. I'm thinking it is the external USB drive again. I found information on the web about how externally powered USB drives are frequently under powered and the symptoms only happen when a program tries to do a large file copy. This fits my symptoms. I'll get another drive and try again.

I received a new drive in the mail from Western Digital and Acronis True Image Home 2012 and 2013 are both working fine with the new drive.
It was the Western Digital Passport drive.

Good to hear, I'll add that to my brain capacity.
