Try&Decide: Can not continue trying after restart

Thread needs solution

Hi,

well after a restart of Windows7 (64Bit Ultimate) having try&decide enabled, the Acronis Try&Decide screen appears. I have the choice to continue trying (to commit later) or to discard changes and reboot as normal with try&decide disabled. My problem now: If I choose continue the system immediately reboots again and the screen appears again... I only can stop this loop (because 'continue' is the default choice) by choosing 'discard changes'......

Any idea ? Thanks !

br, André

Hello André,

Let me assist you.

I may recommend you to re-install the software completely to fix this issue. Please download Acronis Clean-Up Utility, run it, uninstall Acronis True Image, then download the latest build #7046 from your account, install it and check if the issue still persists.

If you still can't continue using Try&Decide feature, please collect AcronisInfo tool output and submit a support request.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello Ilya,

Thank you for your assistance. Well is it possible to backup / save the backup settings ? I have created several jobs for backups and nonstop backup and I don´t like to loose those setting if it is possible. One more question: Do I have to run the Clean-Up tool before uninstalling ?

best regards,
André Hugenroth

Hello André,

Unfortunately, you can't save any tasks, so you'll have to create them from scratch after re-installation.

Let me explain a little more about Acronis Clean-Up: this utility was made to completely uninstall the software with all its traces, and you don't need to remove the software before/after using it. Acronis utility will make all necessary actions automatically.

Let me know if you need any assistance.

Thank you.

Hi again,

well I have deinstalled Acronis Home 2010 with your tool. The tool does NOT remove everything:
1. The program folder was still not empty
2. After re-installation the lastest build, all settings except the tasks are still there.

But now my REALLY problem:

Acronis does NOT START ANY TASK NOW ! I neigher can start a scheduled task immediately nor is it started scheduled. If I clone the task, and remove the schedule settings (set to ) the I can start in manually, but even if I set a schedule time it does NOT WORK !

So Acronis Backup is NOT usable. So please tell me what to do now.... I have re-installed a second time with clearing registry-entries for "Acronis" but this does´n help, too.......

br,
André

Hello André,

Most likely the issue is caused by the incorrect work of Acronis Scheduler that is the module of True Image used to manage all tasks. To fix the issue you simply need to re-install it the following way:

  1. Download the latest build of Acronis Scheduler;

  2. Run the downloaded file. It will automatically update the service;

See if the issue is resolved. If it is not, then please proceed with steps 3 and 4:

  3. Reboot the machine;
  4. Recreate the scheduled tasks.

If the issue still persists, please collect AcronisInfo tool output and submit a support request.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

I'm having a similar, but slightly different problem with Try and Decide. I used to use Microsoft's Steady State program to revert my computer to a known configuration when I knew it was going to be used by others (grandkids, etc.). When Microsoft discontinued this program for Win 7 I was pleasantly surprised to discover that your Try and Decide feature was a good substitute, with one exception. If the computer is shutoff the Try and Decide feature is lost on reboot, and I'm guessing this is because the virtual disk isn't written to the hard disk on shutdown. Is there any way to preserve Try and Decide, regardless of shutdown, until I eventually make the decision to either save or discard any changes? Thanks for your help. - Dave

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum. I will definitely assist you with your question.

You are correct, the Try&Decide information is saved to a temporary workspace which is cleared if a computer is shut down. Even during a reboot with Try&Decide, the system is booted into a temporary Linux like representation. At the moment, it will not be possible to keep Try&Decide information if a computer is shutdown.

I want to thank you for your valuable feedback and I will create an enhancement request and forward it to our Development team so that this feature can be implemented in a future version of our software.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton - Thanks for your response. I didn't purchase True Image because of Try & Decide, but was very happy to get this bonus feature. Enhancing T&D so that it can protect a computer for extended periods of time, regardless of shutdown, would be a big plus for folks like me whose computers get lots of use, not all of which is from users using good computer judgment. If you Google SteadyState you'll find lots of SS users complaining about thousands of computers now at risk because of the demise of SS. Maybe this would be an opportunity for Acronis. Again, thanks for the good service and for a great product. - Dave

Hallo,

I am a user of Acronis True Image Home 2010 (Czech). In principle, I have the same problem, watched with build 6053 and build 7046 too.

Build 6053, I had watched some problem (fall) of the interface of Acronis Recovery Manager, after click the Next button. Acronis Recovery Manager was started different ways, from an external boot media (CD/DVD, USB) or from HDD called through Acronis Boot Manager.
Build 7046, Clean installation after removed (uninstalled) build 6053. The error, noted above, was removed. The problem with the interface Acronis Try & Decide (Windows pre-Windows environment), in build 6053, I considered as the same problem.

Acronis Try & Decide (build 7046) behaves as follows:
1. Acronis Try & Decide started, with setting to dump changes to Acronis Secure Zone.
2. Windows was restarted.
3. Acronis Try & Decide (Windows pre-Windows environment) has problem, on Acer Aspire 2920Z notebook, with "external USB bootable devices" and also with internal (Realtek) Multi-CardReader - I had to unmount SD-HC card, to solve the problem. The problem was that user could not continue with Try & Decide mode, reboot came. More information you can find in my discussion contribution to discusion 8221: Try&Decide - Restart stops with connected USB mass storage.
4. User account was loaded and Acronis Try & Decide worked correctly.
5. Windows was restarted.
6. Acronis Try & Decide automatically threw away (dropped) all changes and started Windows normally.
7. Acronis Secure Zone newly acquired wasted, non-recoverable, place. Usable capacity of Acronis Secure Zone was smaller.

P.S. I am sorry about my English. It is not my native language.

Thank you for solve this problem. (Operation system: Microsoft Windows Vista, 32-bit, Czech, SP2)
Robert
