trying to Transfer Win 10 from one ssd to a larger one with ATI 2014

Thread needs solution

Hi all, hope someone can help.  i did this transfer but the new disk would not boot properly, so stuck.  Should ATI 2014 have been able to do this successfully?  Wondering wether its something i have done wrong, or ATI 2014 working with Win10

Peter, strictly speaking ATIH 2014 is not supported by Acronis for use with Windows 10, but this is really more about it being installed on Windows 10, so it should work fine providing you are booting from the ATIH 2014 bootable Rescue Media to do the cloning operation.

That raises the next question: which process did you use to transfer between your SSD's - was this done as a clone or by using Backup & Restore?

Also, does your original source SSD still boot up OK into Windows 10 (assuming you put it back to do so)?

When you perform a disk clone, this should always be done using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media, and this media should be booted in the same way as your Windows 10 OS uses, i.e. if Windows boots using UEFI, then you must boot the media in the same way.

See webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS to determine which way your system boots.

See KB document: 56634: Acronis True Image: Cloning Disks which outlines the requirements for cloning drives and includes a video tutorial of the process (albeit taken from a later version of ATIH but the principles remain the same).

See also KB document: 1540: Difference between Backup and Disk Clone - it is strongly recommended to make a full drive backup before attempting to clone a drive, but you can also achieve the same result as cloning by doing a Backup & Restore instead.

thanks for your reply, but i think its  a bit late, damage already done.  whole system screwed, having to rebuild it all.  done most and learnt a lot about partitions in the meantime, and being fleeced by computer shop.  Initially i just used the wizard presented by the disk - select source disk, select destination disk.  everyone tells me i should not use 2014 as it cant handle win 10

Peter, sorry to hear you are having to do a full rebuild for Windows 10 - did the old drive you cloned from not still work either?

The ATIH 2014 Rescue Media should still work regardless of the OS being Windows 10 - it is just not supported for installing on Windows 10 though some users do have it installed and working.
