Unable to clone to extenal drives

Thread needs solution

Atih12. Unable to clone disk to any external drive. Goes through all proper screens, but when trying to boot from cloned external drive, get a split second blue screen and then system just reboots.

Boot to regular drive and look at partitions on just cloned extenal drive and everything looks as it should.

Have tried with two different seagate go external usb drives. Both 500 GB. Interanl system drive is 500GB also.

Can successfully clone to a 1GB internal drive with no problems.

Any help?

Thanks.

1. Do not Clone. Do a full disk Backup, followed by a full disk Restore.
2. IIRC, you cannot boot a Windows OS from an external drive. That is a Windows limitation, not an Acronis issue.
3. If I'm remembering correctly about point 2., and you are correct that the cloned disk looks identical to the original, then it sounds as though your clone was successful.

YOu would want to remove the clone before trying to boot -- windows simply cannot tolerate two partitons being marked active. Also, yo would wnat the new hdisk in the same physcial location as the original hdisk was. Is this the casee when you try to swap?

Galen,
If you are trying to boot the cloned disk with the disk still in the external enclosure, Windows will not normally allow booting into Windows via a usb connnector. As Scott indicated, put the clone disk in the comptuter with it as the only cable connnected disk. You only want one disk connected on first boot following the cloning.
