Typically the computer doesn't have to restart to do an image. It only needs to restart if you did a clone. Many users confuse images and clones (in Acronis lingo).
If you want to clone, you will get a disk that is the exact copy of your current disk. Do your clone starting your computer on the recovery CD. Do no restart the computer after the clone with both disks attached. For more details, check out Grover's True Image Guides on the left navigation panel.
Most users want to have a backup they can restore to a new disk, in case their main disk fails. This is a disk and partition backup (an image). This doesn't create a cloned disk, but an image archive file (a TIB file) which is a normal data file. When you restore, you boot the computer on the recovery disk and ATI moves the data back to the new or original disk. To be reliable, an image should include ALL the partitions of the system disk. For more details, check out the same guides.

I just upgraded to Acronis True Image 2014 on Windows 8 . 1 64 bits.
I updated to the last release first.

I then tried to run a complete disk backup on a external newly formatted disk that was already used succesfully (no problem with that disk). Its capacity is 455 Gigabytes. I want to backup my main system disk (about 250 Gigabytes). After a few hours , the backup stop after displaying a backup progress of about 38 Gigabytes only saying that the destination disk is FULL ??!!!

Never had this problem with my older version (Acronis Ture Image 2011 on Windows 7 Pro).
I am now completely reformatting the disk (using the complete method) but I do not think this will help.

Any idea ?
