Unable to start Acronis from Rescue media.

Thread needs solution

I can boot to the rescue media and I am presented with the selection screen to boot acronis or start Windows. The keyboard and mouse won't function and it eventually tries to start Windows.

I have tried creating the rescue media with force_modules=usbhid but that did the same thing.

Pressing F11 does nothing, it's as if the keyboard is not active. I have the latest BIOS/UEFI version. I have tried using 2015, 2014, and 2012 and they all do the same thing. Any suggestions? I'm stuck with out a restore option.

James, are you creating the Acronis Rescue media yourself from within the installed ATIH application or are you downloading / burning the Rescue Media .ISO file to CD/DVD from your Acronis Account?

The standard Rescue Media is based on a Linux kernel which is used to create the environment where Acronis is launched from, so the older versions of the media from such as 2012 may not have the necessary support for devices found in your system, if this is recent hardware based.

If you are booting your Windows OS via UEFI and possibly Secure Boot, then the Acronis Rescue Media needs to be booted in the same way.  See webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS for more information.

You may need to disable Secure Boot for UEFI when using the Linux version of the media, or you may need to consider creating the alternative Windows PE version of the Rescue Media.

Note: Later versions of ATIH have significantly improved the ease with which the WinPE Rescue Media can be created, plus the MVP community have produced a script to create a customised version of the media with additional device drivers injected which works with ATIH 2016 & later versions of the product.  See link in my signature and/or the MVP User Tools and Tutorials link in the Useful Links section of the forum webpage.

I have created the media myself and have downloaded the latest ISO for 2014. Both did the same. In my BIOS settings I noticed the USB wasn't enabled as a boot, it seemed to toggle itself off when I tried to enable it. After fooling around with it I was able to save and exit and boot to USB 2015 media. I might have an issue with the USB bus. Seems to be working now, thank you for a great product.

James, thanks for the feedback, glad to hear that the media seems to be working now.  I find with some of my own systems that the USB device selection / priority options in the BIOS are only valid when I have a device actually plugged in, so I set the option when a device is connected and it remembers that for when I want to boot from a USB device at a later time.
