Understanding the various bootable ISO files

Thread needs solution

A couple of questions:

1.

Is there a difference between the two bootable downloads (see attached)

  • Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack
  • Acronis True Image Home 2012

Each are listed with the same date and identical file-sizes. I have done a binary comparison and they do show a small number of differences. But when installed they seem to be identical (apart from splash screen). They have identical menus. Are they the same or different?

They each also seem to have non-English "Help"???

2.

Following on from the above.

Is the media created from ATIH2012 "Rescue Media Builder" the same as (identical to?) the above downloadable ISO's? Or does the media builder create something much more "specific" for my particular system (as built).

I have already noted that the "Help" is in English which is different from the downloaded *.ISO's.

Any comments most appreciated.

Tks,

Mark J

1) The small differences you observerd are most likely differences in license key that enable universal restore and dynamic disks handling.
2) They are the same - they don't depend on the hardware where product is installed. (With PP you can create WinPE-based bootable CD that is another story)

The one with the Plus Pack is featuring Universal Restore (feature is activated). Not the other one. Other than that, no difference.

Don't know about this one. This must be a build mistake (I think other users already pointed to something like that)

Regardless of whether it comes from your installed version of ATI or from your acronis account, the bootable ISOs are always independent of the hardware that produced them.
The versions that you download can be updated more easily by Acronis since they don't have to produce a new update of the entire program to make it available to users. Therefore, you can expect that the downloadable version is more up to date, or updated faster than the one you produce on your computer.

Is it correct to assume then that the Hotfix that also appears with the downloads is a fix for a problem that appears solely in the Windows installation and not the Bootable version? That if there were a fix needed for the Bootable file(s) those files would be dated later then they are?

That is a good guess, tomf
