UPDATES - No information found so far on installation.

Thread needs solution

- Some software makers make their updates "automatically" You just have to agree each time a popup asks for persmission. There is nothing else to it.

- Some software makers include an automatic warning when new updates are available for a registered product. Acronis has the feature activated in my product, but I never got any email or any popup, when opening True Image. So I have to check manually !

- Amost ALL software makers never write any "Update Instructions"  at the download page about how to proceed for an "update". It makes me angry.

Acronis is no exception.

- Is it required to un-installl the current running True Image version ?
I guess so,  but again, no instruction was found on the download page.

- If the installed currently installed version is NOT uninstalled before attempting an "update" to build 7160, will this new "build" installer see the currently installed version and uninstall it, or just overwrite the old files and add new files ?

I downloaded "update" Build7160. What is next step ?

By the way...
Won't  you agree that so much confusion about installation problems (found on this forum) shows that there is a fundamental problem caused somewhere by "the logic" (if any) used by marketing ?

Name changes, product-names "by the year" etc. are taking too much wasted energy.

Georges,

In theory, the product is designed to be updated on line. The benefit of this is to preserve the status of on-going backup chains.

AS you mention, based on the experience of many users, it is safer to consider the update a different piece of software, uninstall the previous version, install the new version and restart the backup chains from scratch.
