Upgrade TIH 2011 problem

Thread needs solution

I’m stuck. Upgrading TIH 2010 to 2011 (Windows XP) seemed to be succesful. But TIH 2011 was slow and the program had hickups (not possible to go back to home menu f.i.). Took 4 minutes to load and often the program froze. Had a hard time uninstalling and reinstalling. I made the mistake to remove manually all references to Acronis in the registry;). Later I found out there was a ‘remove all traces from Acronis utility’ (only for 2011), which I ran. After that, Installing TIH 2011 build 14.0.0.6597 gave me a 1603 error stating the installprogram couldn’t continue. So I ran the remove Acronis utility again and installed the old build TIH 2010 7.046. This build installed and runs smoothly.
What to do?
Read some about reversing a certain string in the registry shown in the install.log; but that's not for me. I'm not a computer engineer but an end user.

My fears became true. Another attempt to upgrade to 2011 finished before it began with the error:

"The installation was iterrupted before Acronis TIH 2011 could be installed. You need to restart the installer again". You can guess what happened when i restarted the installer... Error 1603 showed up in the logfile i include as an attachement.

Installing (or better trying to) install the 2010 addon gave me the same error. Windows Xp installer messed up or an Acronis installer problem?

Yours sincerely,
Ton Meijers

Hello Ton,

Thank you for posting. I will definitely help you with resolving this issue.

When the installation fails with this error:

 1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {BB812720-62FC-466F-BB97-4230E06982FE}: 1605
Action ended 12:26:48: DetectMsiMajorUpgradables. Return value 3.

It means that our software failed to update some of its components. To resolve this issue, I would recommend the following, it is not very complicated. Press start, select Run and type regedit, then press ok.

In the registry window please click on Edit and select find. Please look for the following value, which as you correctly pointed out, should be reverted: 027218BB. The original value from the .msi log is BB812720 which I simply typed in the opposite order. Once you find that registry key please delete it.

I would really appreciate if you could get back to me in case you have additional questions or run into any issues.

Thank you.

Hello Anton,

A few things in life are simple. Acronis upgrade installation is'nt one of them. Remembered that i gave up on Disk Director (same situation: upgrade and on the same machine). To be brief: couldn't find the value or string BB812720 in the registry. On attempt to install the upgrade 3 directories are made in the temp dir, one with the msvcr80.dll. Thought to be smart; copied this dll to windows/system32; reinstalled TIH again en found out i wasn' that smart.
I'am lost again. How come TIH 2010 works fine (could install this version later, but not the addons...[same error 1603]) and there is no possibility to upgrade to version 2011.

Yours sincerely,
Ton Meijers

Dear Ton,

Thank you for replying.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience. Do you mind contacting our Support team instead, I am certain that a chat with a remote session will straighten this out.

I believe that the main issue is caused by ATIH 2011 not updating Acronis program components properly, that is why ATIH 2010 installs fine on your computer, however it is difficult to say for certain without additional investigation.

If you continue to experience problems or any issues with your interactions with support, please let me know.

Thank you.

Dear Anton and other users,

No chat possible today, so i struggled on.
Deleting 4 instances of the key 755169B8 (reversed form of 8B961557 and NOT the original BB812720 as you suggested) in the registry did the trick. After that I was able to upgrade TIH 2010 to 2011. Pfeww! Took me all together hours of precious time to find this solution hidden in the forum. Not for the faint hearted. Hope they will sort this out, so I will be the last person with this problem.
Regards,

Attempting to upgrade from TI2010, build 7046, to TI2011, build 6597, on XP-Pro always results in 1603 error. WHY???

Phil,
It is best that you edit and remove your email address. It is not needed.

You can attempt the fix mentioned in the prior posts; or, you can use uninstall your existing 2010 using the cleanup utility found inside my signature below.

Wrapping up,
Installation was possible. But the program was slow, slow slow.
Loading takes a long time (several minutes)
When I edited backups made with v2010 (allow silentmode) the programs hung (hungapp). I could change options but the save button was grayed out. Pressing the ‘make this settings default’ also crashed the program (in taskmanager). But… (because the pc kept on rattling) I found out that it takes 9 minutes before the save button appeared. But after pressing this button, closing and opening the program these changes seemed to be gone.
When I tried (using the backup assistant) to make a new backup the program shows no backup destination and hung again.
Exporting the backupsettings, changing the AllowSilentMode from 0 to 1 and then importing the backupsettings did’nt change anything.
Backing up already (2010) existing backup profiles was possible.
Checking nonstop backup (I don’t want this option) also crashed the program.
I noticed TIH made ca_?.tmp files in c:\docements and settings\user\local settings\temp

I then did a reinstall and choosed repair the program, did a defragmentation and now the speed is back and i'm able to change the setting of the backup profiles each by each.
Still an bit cautious, but all is fine.... so far,

Phil, i choose TIH 2011 because of the christmas offer covering 3 pc's for a very low price. That's why. An i do have a small network of 4 pc's...

Ton
