Usecase with: Snap Deploy 3 for Servers

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have an issue with a server, which makes me look for some kind of software that can help me with swapping 6x 146GB disks with 6x 450GB disks.. So i spoke with Dell how told me about your software, so i have been looking for a while and think that i have found the software that i need.. hope that someone can confirm if im right or not.

What i want to do is:

1. shut down the server.
2. make a backup of the server.
3. switch the 6 old 146GB disks with some bigger 450GB disks.
4. rebuild me raid with the new disks.
5. restore the image from ealier so i have more storage..

The operative system is RedHat 4. and running as a database server.

Will this be possible with your application Snap Deploy 3 for Servers or will i need the Advanced Backup 10 for Linux?

Hope that someone can help me if i can use the Snap Deploy software for this task.

Hello Michael,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response. Let me clarify this situation for you.

You will be able to handle such situation with our software, but Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0 does not support Linux distributions.

To handle this situation you should use Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux. The general sequence of actions is:

1. Install the product to your Red Hat (check the Installation Guide for the details)

2. Create a backup of your old RAID (check Chapter 6.2. of this User's Guide)

3. Create the Bootable CD with the product (so you will be able to boot your server from it for recovery, check 6.10. Chapter of the same guide)

4. Shut down your server, change the HDD's, configure your RAID

5. Boot your PC from the CD you created and recover the image (please check 6.3. Chapter of the guide for the detailed information.

I would recommend you to check the trial version of the product, it has full functionality when you're operating from version installed on Linux, and bootable CD is limited for recovery only. Trial version is for 15 days testing period.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.
