Using Acronis True Image Home Ver. 11(build 8,101) and a Firewire Hard Drive.

Thread needs solution

Hello,
Having usb 1.1 ports a full system backup on my aged pc took too long to complete when backing up to a usb hard drive. Previously to trying a backup on the usb hard drive I had completed several successful backups to discs. Beacause the pc has a firewire port I purchased a firewire hard drive believing that this would be considerably faster than usb 1.1. A short way into backing up on the firewire hard drive I get the following error message:

E00070004: Failed to write data to the archived file.
A possible reason might be poor media quality.

Also a bubble pops up from the system tray which says:

Windows - Delayed Write Failed.
Windows was unable to save all
the data to the file H:\$BitMap the
data has been lost. This error may
be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please
try to save this file elsewhere.

The drivers for the firewire hard drive installed correctly and when plugged in is recognized by windows so that data can be coppied to and fro.
Also somewhere on the forum I read that it is best to optimize the drive for performance within the policies tab of the drive properties. This had been done already.
Please find attached the acronis log file.
The PC runs windows xp sp3.
I can continue to make backups of my documents to a smaller internal hard drive with no problem.
Please let me know if you require any further info.
Thank you for your time.

Hello Gordon!

Thank you for finding time to join us, we're glad to greet you here, and will be glad to assist you.

Unfortunately Poor media quality is a rather common error, and may indicate the faulty connectivity to it, etc. I'd advise you to plug the drive to any other suitable port.

The thing is that Acronis True Image Home 11 is an outdated product: it's no longer updated, developed and supported. So we don't have many options here.

I'd advise you to install the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2011 and check whether the issue remains in it. Should it be present we're at least will be able to proceed with the investigation and fix the cause. The trial version is almost full functional and has the following limitations:

  1. 30 days of work
  2. Clone operation is not available in Windows
  3. Bootable media can restore only

Since the GUI is different in this version, so you might find our User's Guide useful.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
