Using True image on two machines

Thread needs solution

I have two machines, both Dells with SSDs. The online machine is a smaller version of the backup machine. The BU machine is not online and is purely in case the online machine stops working. Data is on a 1 TB USB drive, with backup USB drives. I have two copies of True Image 2013, and may have put one on each machine.

I run a weekly BU of the online machine, C: drive to a folder on the USB drive. Every few months I copy the BU to the ofline machine. Until now it's worked well. Yesterday the file declined to run, and called for activation. I cannot see whay this happened. I also cannot see any way of identifying the version that is loaded on the two machines.

Advice is sought about how to extract the online BU on the USB drive to the BU machine. Many thanks.

Talus, are you able to create the Acronis Rescue Media on CD for the system that is working without asking for activation?

If so, you should be able to try booting from the CD and restoring the BU from the USB drive on the other system.

For the system that now asks for activation, you could try performing a repair install of ATIH 2013 - to do this you simply run the ATIH 2013 installer program and then take the option for Repair when shown.

Cretino! Me I mean. I have an Acronis Rescue Media CD ... somewhere. Note to self - need to back up brain. I'm fairly sure that I booted off this CD when I set up the backup computer. I'll have a look at installer as well. First step is to locate the CD. Not hard.

May your data be always secure and viruses not visit you. Many thanks.

Steve, thanks, worked a treat. I created a fresh boot disk from the online machine and booted from that for the backup machine. I then ran recovery, which was slow for a while and a progress bar appeared. Not too hard. I think it's important to run a recovery every now and again to see if it works. It took the Win 10 download to wake me up on this point; I have not run a recovery on the backup machine for a few months.  I'm happy about the outcome.
