Validation of backup takes very long

Thread needs solution

Hello together,

I'm using Acronis True Image 2012 Home Update 2.1 Build 7133. Full version is activated. No trail version.

All my data I'm carrying around on an external hard drive (USB 2.0) with 500 GB. About 180 GB are used. This drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt. From the data on this drive I make file backups onto NAS (gigabit LAN) and another external hard drive (USB 2.0). A full backup takes about three to four hours on both NAS and external hard drive with USB 2.0.

This works fine and I have already made more incremental backup versions. When I try to validate the backup, this takes very, very long. After five or six hours it has validated about 10 % and the progress bar shows 10 hours remaining continuously getting more. This is the same behavior on the USB hard drive and the NAS. No noticeable difference.

Furthermore I have noticed, that when a backup volume for about a week isn't connected to the Computer Acronis says 'not backuped yet' ('bisher nicht gesichert' - I have the German version). Then I have to validate the backup first, before I can start a new backup. Must I everytime wait about 12 hours for validating before I can start a new backup? Is that normal?

Thanks for reply!

Greetings
Simon Deutschl

P.S.: I've already searched the Internet but could not find any helpful answer.

I don't use TrueCrypt, but believe the extra time that validation is taking might be due to reading the data at a sector level in it's encrypted state.

Am I following your post correctly?

You have two external drives. One connected to your system, and one connected to a USB port on a NAS?

Validation takes " a very long time" validating images on either disk?

Best performance will be achieved over wired gigabit ethernet.
