Version incompatibility problem? "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Home Archive."

Thread needs solution

I created some archive files of a now defunct laptop running Vista, possibly using Acronis 9. I get the above message when I try to open any of these .tib files using Version 11 on my desktop running XP.

Copying from my external drive to an internal drive did not help. Before messing around more, I would like to know whether my problem may be an issue of version incompatibility. If it might be, I'd like to know what to do about it.

Jane,

It is possible, but unlikely, that there is some backward compatibility issue. The chances are higher if your backup files were encrypted.

But first, try to validate the files using V11. If they validate, they are not corrupt. You can then try to recover from v11 in Windows or from the CD. Maybe you just have a problem with the drivers enabling the double clicking on the files.

Thanks, Pat -

I was able to open the archives in V13 on my new Win 7 laptop.

For the record:

1. My files were not encrypted
2 I ccouldn't even validate the vista laptop files made in V9 using V11 on my xp desktop.
3. I have independently-created Acronis backups of the vista laptop files on 3 different external hard-drives. Same problem with all of them.
4. I can restore my (xp) desktop files made in V11 using V11.
