VIRUS: Continue (Y/N)?

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,

When I use Acronis True Image to RECOVER on my PC (not the boot disk) I get the message:

BootSector Write!!
VIRUS: Continue (Y/N)?

When I disable Virus Protection in BIOS it does not appear anymore.

Have you ever seen this before? Or know how to remove it?

If this is a setting in your BIOS then turning it off will eliminate the message. Do you get the same message if you boot from the Acronis rescue media? I suspect that is warning you because you are about to overwrite your hard disk. Some viruses affect your boot sector.

Hi Thomas,

When I boot with Acronis True Image CD I don’t see this error.

I see it when I recover with the Acronis True Image program on the hard disk.

I do not know if it is harmlos or not.

Someone said disable the Virus Protection in BIOS, install the OS, and activate Virus Protection in BIOS again.

It was still there.

P.S. I recently changed the CMOS Battery and the BIOS asked me if he should set it to defalt which I did . . .

I think Thomas is right here. Your message is not an error, it is a warning that an application is attempting to write to the Boot Sector of your drive so that if you have not chosen to do that you can stop that from happening. Obviously you are choosing to do so by running the Recover process.

On my other PC I do not get this message, but the images are recovered from the 2nd hard disk of the computer.

On this computer with the message, images are recovered from an external hard disk.

I want to believe you and Thomas.

Grateful for your assistance,

John

Does your other PC have an Anti-Virus setting in the BIOS? If so is it disabled? Since you don't see the message when booted from the CD then the issue is with the BIOS setting. Internal vs external drives makes no difference.

on the other computer I do not find any Anti-Virus setting in the BIOS (or UEFI).

I scanned the affected PC with a Kaspersky Rescue Disk.

It found NOTHING.

Anti Virus watches for many things occuring in your machine one of which is writes to the boot sector. When it recognizes this is about to happen it will warn you that this action is about to take place and give you the ability to not allow it to happen. In performing a Restore operation you are wanting to do a boot sector write as well as full partiton or disk writes, you have initiated that procedure therfore you are safe to disregard the anti virus warning and allow the action to continue.
