W7 Boot Screen Blank - have to use safe mode

When I try to boot to the full version, I get the splash screen, but then the screen is just blank.

If I go into safe mode, the menus come up.

What's the difference, and why is 2010 not working w/ W7?

This is on an HP DV6 that has a fresh W7 install just performed.
Was Vista.

What feature of 2010 doesn't work on Win 7? Do you mean you cannot install it? What build do you have? Are you by chance using a wireless keyboard and mouse?
